Really helpful! You certainly seem experienced and trustable. I always thought I was completely set for mechanical engineering but I'm discovering that my strange appeal as of late for structures and city design might be feasible and I think I'm going civil now 👍

And I'm in junior year thinking to get admission in mechanical!

civil engineering is the oldest engineering field teached in college. it builds our city our modern civilization.

Super informative. I was torn between civil or mechanical. I think I’m leaning toward mechanical however I hear there’s an abundance of jobs currently in civil.

This is so impressive and very informative dear Engineering Gone Wild! It is indeed a great sruggle for a lot of students to choose the "right" engineering major because of many factors! Thanks for sharing this detailed video, it is indeed very helpful for a lot of people, who cannot decide! We joined your impressive and inspiring video! With friendly greetings and the best wishes, Alex and Alexandra

The only way you can move up in Civil Eng to design bridges, buildings and other structures is to get your EIT and eventually PE license. Without that you will be stuck paper pushing in the office.
@EngineeringGoneWild2 жыл бұрын
Yea there are definitely more civil engineering jobs that require a PE license compared to mechanical. I wouldn't want to be driving on a bridge that resonates and collapses😂

I prefer civil engineering. It's a cool, interesting and very challenging. Though I also love mechanical engineering and mechatronics. But civil engineering offers different sub disciplines and it requires critical thinking and reasoning.

So I am currently at the University of Texas at Austin and I'm a freshman. Just finished my first week of college. I am currently enrolled in Civil Engineering here and I'm considering switching to Mechanical engineering or computational engineering. Based on the video, my courses in the beginning are basically the same as those of a mech student. If I'm interested in materials science or materials engineering should I move to mechanical? Or is computational also a good idea?

The thing you said at the end of the video...Can't it be the other way around as well? I had to apply for Civil Engineering Major because of Family pressure but Mechanical interests me more. Will I be able to go to the mechanical sectors after I do my undergrad as a Civil Engineer? • I will start college this fall, should I think about changing my major? • Since the core courses are same, Can I study in a Civil Engineering major and think about what really interest me after my sophmore year? • Product Designing, Manufacturing seems more interesting to me than desinging big structures.

Also I wanted to really appreciate how informative this video was, I instantly Liked and Subscribed. Thank You.
@EngineeringGoneWild2 жыл бұрын
Hey Labib it's definitely not impossible but it will be hard to do product design and manufacture with a civil engineering degree because the curriculum focuses mostly on solid mechanics and design of structures, which is quite different in nature than designing products that requires a completely different set of tools and design principles. You can definitely declare civil engineering as your major since the core engineering courses are all the same and then switch over to mechanical as a sophomore. That's essentially what I did when I switched from biomedical to mechanical. Just make sure your school allows students to switch : )

at my college i major in civil engineering and my friend who is in electrical engineering warned me that civil engineering students always fight with mechanical engineering students, I thoguht that was just exaggerated but 2 days ago it was announced that all civil and mechanical engineering students are banned from the college's food court because there was a fight lmao
