This is a day in my life as a mechanical design engineer working in tech for a small robotics start-up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Hope this provides you value and gives you insight into what working as a mechanical engineer is like. P.S. I also made sure my start-up was cool with me talking about my work before making this haha. Anyways, timestamps are as follows:

Fantastic video! Showing engineering jobs in a good (and honest) light like this is absolutely vital. I very nearly gave up on my engineering passion for compsci because of all the bad things people were saying about engineering jobs, and I suspect that others have considered something similar. It is partly because of videos like yours and Wissam Seif's that I haven't! Keep up the great work!

im currently in my first semester of software engineering and I've realized that I don't wanna just sit in front of a desk everyday and code, even though I enjoy it and and good at it. Ive been watching a lot of your videos because I'm interested in switching to mechanical engineering since I have always wondered how things work. I am also very interested in cars and hands on things like you showed in your video. My main concern with switching majors is that the classes will be too hard for me. I am in pre calculus right now instead of calculus, which has already put me a semester behind. I would also be a semester or two behind my peers which makes me feel like I'm dumb since I'm not as good as them. I am literally torn between which major I should do. I just don't want to be too overwhelmed with the physics, chemistry and math in mechanical engineering that I wish I would have stuck with software.
@_iitspaybackk

I’m in the same position as you. I am an information systems major. I’m going to tell you the same thing I keep telling myself. It’s never too late to change your mind! Some people follow thru with a major that they hate and then get a job that sucks, only to realize they wish they would have majored in something else. It’s better for people like us to catch it while it’s still early. Let’s remember that it may take us longer, but if we work hard. It’ll definitely be worth it in the end. Best of luck!!!

After 10 years of working as a mechanical design engineer, it's no longer fun. You know every program, every operation, every mechanism. You know the calculations by heart. Customers want "fast and cheap", time is short, products are "supposed to break" because this is their design assumption and there is nothing you can do about it even though you know you should. Today I would choose a different career path.

Hey @Tamer, congrats on another great vid! I’ve been binging your vids for the last 2-3 months bc I decided at 40 to change careers and duel-bachelor in aerospace and mechanical engineering. Your vids have been instrumental, but how did you afford Solidworks as a student? Was there a student version/discount license? I was hoping to be able to practice with it while in my general courses. Thanks in advance.
@TamerShaheen
@TamerShaheen Жыл бұрын
As a student, the only way I know of to get SolidWorks for “free” is to join an engineering club or design team at your school. They usually give their members free licenses. You could also choose to go with a different CAD software like FreeCAD or Fusion 360. Those usually are free.

Hey there, I had a question that I wanted to ask on Reddit but my karma was too low. How do IGBT’s make a pure sine wave for 60hz? I’m very new to this so sorry if it’s a dumb question. I understand that they switch on and off many times and the more they do that, the average looks more like a pure sine wave. If they only switch on and off 20,000 times a second and pulse width modulation works best when the pulses are extremely fast, how do you generate 60hz of ac? Thanks for your help.
