Turning lining, stitch all the seams except the shoulder seams. Turn then stitch the outer seams then whip stitch the lining on the shoulder seams.
@jenoola4 жыл бұрын
when you want to hide the lining, one way to do it is to cut lining pieces a little bit smaller (like 1 mm smaller on sides you want to hide ), and then when you iron it, because the main fabric is bigger, it will wrap to the inside a little bit and hide the contrasting lining

Watching the start of the stamp carving and using all my energy to stop myself screaming "Away from yourself! Cut away from yourself!" at the tv. I'd like to say it's a lesson you only need to learn once but... let's just say I'm a slow learner. You made some great prints for a first timer though! And of course the costume itself is amazing
@aukjevankolck10174 жыл бұрын
I saw someone else post it already too, but the trick to sleeveless lining is to leave a seam open. I struggled SO much on my first dress worth lining too! I ended up unpicking the side seams, and then they're was some magic with pulling it through a shoulder part, but it did work. I don't remember how to turn it, but I do remember leaving side seams open so that might be a good place to start the magic from....

You have captured the "Art Deco" period "Look" with your costume perfectly! I was reminded of the feeling of the early black and white "Buck Rogers" Cine Film series from the 20s and 30s. Simply wonderful! I think you are also making the most of your beautiful surroundings. Wherever you live, "Nature" is lending a hand to your production. I love it!

Use the bag method. Sew your lining all together, then sew it to your main garment

I love the colors you went with! The orange and purple go great together, and you're right about it suiting the spider web a lot better.

Kudos for going for it! Please see if you can find a book on lino printing from a local library, or find some good tutorials. You always put it up against a ledge, and cut toward it. There's a kind of cutting board specifically for this, and if you can't find one, clamp it to the table. Never use your hand to hold it in place. Also, iron your fabric! You went through all that effort, so don't print on creases! But the result is lovely, and you look like you feel great in it. Keep it up!

I love it! I'm a guy mostly interested in woodworking and electronics, and while I don't know much about sewing or knitting, I love watching your videos. It is so great to see someone go through the process of making things, the decisions they make etc, and you're so good at showing and telling about that! And the result of your work is amazing:)

So clever and absolutely beautiful work! The 20's silhouette looks so flattering on you! 😍 Love it, love it, love it! The only (k)nit-picky little detail that isn't quite "right" is that the 20's head-scarf would have covered the forehead completely. But you look absolutely fantastic in that costume either way! 😁💯

It was so fun to watch your process! I made the same design and it’s fun to see how different they ended up! I love your stamping idea, I ended up sewing silk leaves on to my dress.

A simple way to make the lining better is to trim an quarter of an inch off the lining. That would pull the garment fabric inside. That hides the lining.

Thanks for sharing such a fun project! A good rule of thumb (and good for your thumbs!) is to always carve away from all body parts (away from your hands, in this case). With a small piece like that, clamping it down may be the best option!
@julithewizards13584 жыл бұрын
That looks adorable! 😍 And what a great idea to create the headpiece like that! 😁 With the stamping.. i would have used all the colours and also it would be a nice effect to mix them, that they really look like autumn leaves.. 🍂 🍁 😊

Eucalyptus dyeing is super fun and passively creates leaf imprints on fabric in organic browns. It’s steaming fabric that’s been carefully wrapped with the leaves around a copper pipe in a buffet tray (with water for steam) in the oven on low heat. My fiber arts teacher taught me this technique with silk and wool scarves when I was in hs.

I love watching seamstresses (on YT) recreate vintage fashion especially from the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s, so I’ve seen a lot of videos along these lines, and I have to say, you have done excellent. I would even say better than a lot of people I see on KZbin. You executed this one so perfectly! And fall is my top favorite season so this was so delightful to watch! And so inspiring! Well done!

I really love this! It was amazing seeing you transform into instant 1920s when you did your hair and added the headwrap, that was quite fascinating to see how just the round braids became totally '20s. You have a great 1920s shape! Glad I am not the only one who's sewn lining neckline and armholes and then gone ????%$#@*#????? lol. This is fantastic. (Love the stamps too). Plus, the spiderweb being so very geometric is so Art Deco, and very Poirot. This whole costume has got to be one of my favourites ever.

The dress looks beautiful!!.. Next time if you don´t have a good linnni fabric you could do a facing from the fashion fabric just for the outher edges and then sew it to your linning fabric so it doesn´t stick out so much...But either way amazing work!!
@e.millustration17594 жыл бұрын
this is a gorgeous dress, i adore it, i want that fabric so bad, it's lush. just a heads up though, when carving a stamp or print please carve away from yourself - i've done lino printing for years and have carved towards myself, and have some gnarly scars on my fingers from slips, those carving tools are sharp :( (i'm not saying you'll avoid nicking yourself, but the chance of them happening is a lot less) aside from the dangers, the stamping looks really good :D i hope you do more, carving stamps like that is really fun!
@melissamanning20154 жыл бұрын
Your stamps are beautiful! I would love to see more printed fabrics. To add to the above comments, you can get something called a bench hook which will help you keep your stamps corralled as you carve them (away from you!). You can also cut away some of the unused material and mount the stamps on wood blocks for ease of use.
@infamoussphere72284 жыл бұрын
me watching this video before she mentioned giving herself a good nick - "nooo, cut away from yourself!" I did a printmaking degree and they were very hardcore on this point, and as a consequence I've only cut myself with relief print tools once. Put your steadying hand *behind* your cutting hand or well away from it. You can also set up a rig to keep your block steady but I've personally never had one

I was having flashbacks of my art teachers sternly warning us not to carve towards yourself when that scene started. Hope the injury heals well Great work on the outfit If the leaves fade, would you redo them in gold? Would a top stitch near the seem of the lining and orange fabric work to reinforce the placement?

I love it, your hair has a princess Leia look. If you really liked the gold and purple paint... maybe just a few dotted around as accents... the hairpiece turned out quite well.
