I made a few of those Vee blocks and clamps during my apprenticeship 50 years ago. The milling tools were dipped in oily wax after use to help prevent rust forming. Moore and Wright were the Rolls Royce of micrometers all those years back so couldn't afford them. Bought Japanese ones as we had to have our own mics and Vernier Callipers. Paid them off at £2 a week out of £34 per week wages. Went up to £1.01 per hour when reaching 18 years of age. Left doing that job and joined The Army instead. The round thing with the wing nut is forholding the test tube holder onto the stand.

One thing I did get from my dad before he passed away was his tools. He was an engineer. He used to work for ICI, BP, various other large companies and the military. I was 15 when I left school. I took no exams. I left school and went straight into an appreticeship with SAAB. At 17 I went into the British Army. After a stag or two in the military undertaking engineering work of the old 432 track vehicles I went into the MoD. Years later and having worked in places such as Hong Kong, India, Norway, Italy and Germany - but to name a few, I now work for one of the largest communications companies in the country. I deal now predominantly with complex engineering issues. Had it not been for my father giving me his tools, I probably would have gone a different direction and not seen the interest... ...and fyi Norfolk man, I was born in Norfolk, and now live back in Norfolk as we speak. I am disappointed that you have no idea what you have in your posession. I have bought some of the equipment you have and I can tell you that it cost more than £100. If I had to guess, looking at what you have, sold in the right market and to the right people, you could make over a grand back...just sayin'...

The green gear box is an automatic tapper. The "puller thing" and the X block go together for holding round bars for drilling or milling. The clamps with two threads are "engineers clamps" the various blocks are mounting work onto milling machines etc. The drill set in a number set. The thing with the eyepiece and thread is for fing centers or edges on a milling machine. The thing with the hole through at an angle is a counter sink often called a snail counter sink, they are very effective and produce a better finish that the normal type. The BSF and UNF taps will come in handy for old engines so keep them. The Ackworthie machine is an automatic tapping machine for a pillar drill or lathe, when it hits the correct depth of thread it or the drill quill is raised it automatically goes into reverse in order to back the tap out. The blue hole punch is in fact a saw set for setting the kerf on saw teeth.

What you called a puller is the clamp for holding round stock in the V blocks, the ones that look like a cross from the end, V blocks are very handy for holding round bar stock for milling or drilling. The thing with a ball on the shaft is a wiggler, its for centring your drill/mill on a piece of stock. The so called hole punch looks like a saw blade tooth setter. You got your moneys worth at least 10 fold just 3 of the Dormer milling bits covers your cost, do some research before you throw anything out. That ‘taper adjustment’ is probably from a Colchester or Harrison lathe - it’s a Morse taper bush which fits directly in the spindle for between-centres turning. The outside is MT 4½ and the inside probably MT 3. It’s the one thing that often gets lost when a lathe changes hands. But please, get yourself some old tool catalogues so you learn what all these tools are, and stop chucking them round - they’re precision items and should be treated carefully.

I would be very interested in your milling bits you wish to get rid of. The slip ring thing is a sine bar. The long thing with the thread is a ball or micrometer height gauge, can be used for measuring but we mostly used then at college with a engineers table for marking out. No idea on the thing with the handle. the the blue/gray things are precision optical inspection apparatus. The "rolls royce thing is some kind of arbour. The Halifax is a V block for drilling holes in round bar as were the small and large bits that followed. The U shame contraption is a clamp for a V block. The drills are "number drills", much like BA sizes, the bigger the number the smaller the diameter. The ball is a "finder", used fro finding the edge of a workpiece or the longitudinal centre of round bar on a mill. They are also known as wobblers, they wobble around until to get the the edge when they run true, then flick off when you get there. The cutter things are another form of counter sink. The mag base with no upright is for holding something like a small V block for quick changing, you often get bigger ones on surface grinders. The bit of plastic is off a hover lol. The big gearbox bit is a tapping head for a milling or drilling machine. The contraption that was after the alli bar is a Vernier Height gauge for marking out or measuring on a engineers table. the Welding rods are in fact precision ground dowel pins. The digital thing is a digital vernier Hight gauge. The thing your putting in the scrap is just a relay. The angle gauge is indeed a protractor, a vernier protractor. The entre point thing is a centre finder. The "braze on tips" are not braise on tips, but the holders have a little clamp on to hold them in place. The oil dripper is a precision oiler, lots of people use them for oiling small models and small motors
