Fukn spot on for the job it's for Mate. Couldn't fault it but would have liked to see how much correction the seats took to become concentric and where you placed the seats on the valve face. For someone that didn't know that would have completed the technical aspect of the job/video. Cheers mate

Great video thanks and its not that you got a "rise”outta me just that id like to put a respectful thought - on valve angles , as a person who sees and has seen the inside of a lot of engines and only because i mostly work on diesels with very dirty carbon’d up intakes to the extent with modern egr that chunks of it fall into the valves quite often - i do think a slight mismatch in the angles helps keep a very high pressure per contact area thus helping crush the stuff and prevent it staying too long between and then getting a burnt valve because of it chuffing

So funny I use a drill chuck for some operations in my seat and guide machine (spring seats stud bosses ect) . Nothing wrong with using the correct tool for the Job. I have never done a liner. Seen many of them but maybe because of my teacher (grandfather) i have always replaced the guides. Why do you choose liner rather then a Iron replacement guide? Last question is the valve grinder wheel a ruby from goodson or CHS ? I have tried them but did not get the finish you have and ended up switching back to a gp wheel. I have the same grinder sitting under a tarp I got for free when the local community college did some upgrades. It is missing the motor and dome other parts but someday I will go through it but for now my old Sioux dose the job.
@EngineRehab
@EngineRehab 10 ай бұрын
My ruby came from performance plus along with a special diamond dresser. And I prefer a bronze guide in general, if I can avoid drilling for a false guide and can use a liner then I always do that, just to help keep things concentric. My experience with liners is they’re tougher than anything else out there especially when you use a rapid brand liner. There are lots of other factors and also keeping in mind that I mainly work on performance stuff. I will say the replacement engine for my silverado will have rapid liners in it!

Josh, love your videos! In your cast iron block repair video, what rod did you use for your TIG welding and you have any cast iron welding tips? I have to repair a crack in the bell housing bolt of a 302 Windsor.
@EngineRehab
@EngineRehab 10 ай бұрын
Is one of the ears broken on the bellhousing? We’ve done those repairs with 308L and a second person running a torch to help keep things toasty. I used 308L on my block repair to answer your question. We have also had good success with ni99 rod but you’ll do okay with the 308L.
@johnnymizerati6169
@johnnymizerati6169 10 ай бұрын
Top drivers side is split on the block about 1/2" in. It looks like the guy that owned it previously tried to pull the bellhousing on with bolts when the locator pins weren't aligned. I think he tried to repair it by drilling it out and tapping it with a bigger bolt. It's probably only a 300 something horsepower motor so I was thinking on cleaning it up, welding the seam, and then helicoiling it.
@johnnymizerati6169
@johnnymizerati6169 10 ай бұрын
308 SS is low carbon content but high nickle so that must be why it works? Just straight argon, no tri mix? I'm nervous about getting it wrong. I have some mig wire I thought of using as some tig filler, royal 44 I think it's what it's called. Moser eng told me that's what they used welding axle tubes up on cast iron center sections. I had to brace an 8.8 so I bought a small spool of it a long time ago.
@EngineRehab
@EngineRehab 10 ай бұрын
@@johnnymizerati6169 straight argon. Lots of gas coverage. Heat up the part so it’s not dead cold. Take breaks and let its temperature equalize occasionally. Its not a race. In the vid you saw I warmed it up, but was only building up a corner on the part. I didn’t try pushing the weld into the main web which you noticed. So mine went easy. Yours will take some time, it wont wanna flow nice. It gets better when the cast started to mix with the wire. Also only just enough heat to get the part to puddle. Penetration isn’t a thing on cast iron. It doesn’t get stronger with more heat.
