Dr. Starkey, as an American based world history teacher for several decades, I have gained from your vast repertoire of “television, historian“ material. My students have gained as well. I subscribed to this channel as soon as I found it during the pandemic and after your ridiculous “cancellation“. As I understand it, you have a home in the US and I wondered if that means you lecture from time to time in the US. If so, I would love information on how I might come to one of your lectures in person. I would be happy to take you to lunch, as you have stated in your videos. It would be a great honor to meet you. Thank you. Audrey H.

Monarch: One who reigns over a state or territory, usually for life and by hereditary right, especially. Republic: A political order in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who are entitled to vote for officers and representatives responsible to them. Despite all of Charles III feel-good “inclusivity” and “political correctness”, he wrote the most Divine Right coronation oath since Charles I. I kept waiting for him to mention Parliament, reigning under the law, by the consent of the people, etc., in vain. He’s trying to push back to “the will of the king has the force of law”, shame on him. I was very open-minded and determined to give him a fair chance, and he blew it, utterly. What a fantasist he is.

Not paying attention were you? We get a bad king, we change them out. Mind, the age -old constitution Dr. Starkey was refering to has been running on fumes pretty much from the Hanoverian accession and the invention of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet to deal with kings at first with no English, then bonkers, and then going into mourning for forty odd years. We have had no monarch worhty of the name since Victoria. The whole thing desperately needs reworking with a king who actually kings. I only have to look over the water, either west or south, to see all the other options are bollocks.

I wonder if David Starkey realizes how contradictory his telling of British history actually is. I'm the proud owner of his complete Monarchy series and this idea of England being some kind of Royal Republic is an absurdity. If we are using the Parliamentary Commonwealth of the 17th century as some kind of watermark for this myth. I would remind you that Parliament went out of it's way in the end to make Oliver Cromwell a King. And when he refused the Kingship his office of Lord Protector was elevated to that of Prince Regent. David starkey once famously asked his tutor Elton "When did Thomas Cromwell tell Henry 8th he had been made redundant" Equally I would ask David When did William Cecil tell Elizabeth 1st she ruled a Republic? Answers on a postcard.
