The major flaw is that the system and style imposed to benefit the unfit, out of form and un-droppable Kane inhibits the flair and pace behind him, and Kane is not able or willing to stay high and not congest the midfield, and leave space for the slick, incisive passing, like the move late on which led to the Cole Palmer effort.

You need to push up from the back, which squeezes the midfield up, which keeps Kane high. The only thing you achieve by keeping Kane high with a deep back line, is a massive disconnect from back to front. And he isn’t congesting the space, he’s always been a striker that drops deep, and he’s great at it, as long as he’s got runners off him and no one stepping on his toes, and that’s where Bellingham comes in, he’s not a ten, for several reasons, but he’s invading Kane’s space, that’s where the congestion is

I think we'll get a scrappy Kane goal in extra time and win 1-0. It will be one of two shots on target the whole match but Slovakia will have had lots of good attempts that Pickford has to save us from. Our other shot will be a flimsy attempt from the edge of the box from Foden that will be straight at the keeper around the 50th or 60th minute. Sky news will echo Southgate in saying it was a promising performance for some undefined buzzwordy reason like "pressing", "composure", "tightness" or some nonsense like that.

So much has been made of team selection, formations, tactics, (we all know Jude needs moved back, Foden in the 10, Gordon on the left, natural balance restored), but the bottom line is, Gareth Southgate is not a winner. Leopards and spots, and all that, we keep expecting him to change, to be a bit more adventurous, show a bit more ambition, but he’s a slave to his conservative nature, paralysed by his own fear, and not necessarily a fear of losing, but a fear of daring to be great and win. For some people, the prospect of crossing the finishing line in 1st, is scarier than losing in 2nd or 3rd. He’s deffo got the yips when it comes to getting over the line.

I love these 3 so much together. But let's be honest, their football knowledge on current players and teams outside the PL are surface level at most. Always goes for safe options, never knowing anyone outside the PL, barely watch any football outside UCL and PL and you can clearly tell they don't even watch national league games outside England. How do you not see Belgium, Italy, Croatia all struggling before the Euros and Switzerland, Austria are more than dark favourites. @@Vipa567 Pressure is definitely a factor with England this year, like it has been so many times before. Whether they should be able to handle that pressure is another question, but they're not. Other big teams have it too, and it is showing, but apart from the Netherlands (another team who often bottle it) they've all won a trophy recently, so it's less extreme. Our media are the worst too. Sky, Talksport et al, who hype us up as if we're bound to win it. The nation digests that and creates an unworkable environment for both player and manager in which they get very little thanks for winning and get slaughtered when they don't. The media are never going to fully admit that the pressure is getting to the players because it would be a complete conflict of interest on their part. They'd be partly to blame! This could affect the story machine and ultimately their profits. Much easier to pin it all on Southgate and create a feedback loop of negativity towards him which has now ballooned out of control. I'm not saying he's tactical genius, far from it, but when you look at how we played in the last three tournaments (when there was less pressure) you have to ask the question, what's changed? The players? They've literally got better! It doesn't fully explain these bad performances. The big names; Sake, Bellingham, Kane etc are playing with a weight on their shoulders and they are not enjoying themselves out there. It was especially noticeable against Denmark. The Slovenia game was better, and it's really encouraging that some of the bench players seem less affected by the noise, but I'm expecting a repeat of Iceland 2016 against Slovakia. Hopefully I'm wrong and the boys can overcome these mental barriers and play how we know they can play. All we can do is get behind them all. Come on England!!!

Had a really weird, vivid dream last night! England were 1-0 up against Slovakia in the 90th minute. One of England's players was fouled in the box and Bellingham and someone else (can't remember who) started celebrating. The pen wasn't given and Slovakia went on to score making it it 1-1. Thankfully, England then won 3-2 in the penalty shootout. It was so vivid! I woke up and thought "man, that was close! But at least we won!". Had to put a cheeky tenner on a draw after 90 minutes and England winning on pens. lol. I'm gonna be so shocked if that now happens! Saka must be in the 11. Besides Gordon he is the only proper winger that’s going to run at the fullbacks every time. Every other winger is more likely to drift into midfield leaving so many bodies there. The solution is simple. Foden at the 10 Gordon on the left and Saka on the right. We must build around saka and Foden they are our two best and most important players. They cannot be dropped or replaced.

I have been following Copa America too and the excitement is on a different level. The other day, though Uruguay were winning the game, they kept going for more. Yesterday, Brazil and Argentina and even the lesser teams! No dull moments at all. The only thing that is a bit out of control is the refreeing. Whenever two players argue the whole 22 players tend to crowd the ref lol. Europe is on the other extreme in that matter haha.I definitely think UEFA should come up with a different thing and scrape the best 3rds format! If we see a huge shift in performance in the round of 16, that definitely will be the reason why

Sure England has the skill: somehow get to overtime, find a defender's leg to fall over in the penalty area, then somehow score on a penalty that the keeper had first held.

The problem is not so much the players , its their position on the field. The back 4 need to be on the half way line or a little higher Press the opposition into their half and make it hard for them. We have lots of pace at the back so balls over the top arent an issue. Drop off 10-15 yards when we lose the ball by all means but unless the opposition force us back late in the game when theyre behind theres no reason at all to be as deep for such long periods in games as we have been. Having said that I don't like Foden on the left , I think he's more productive in a central role and with the opposition pinned back , he and Saka could use those little one twos to create a lot of chances in the way they do for their club sides.

Alot has been said about England being arrogant and I think their right but not from the players or fans. Its the manager - Southgate has such an ego now that he wont accept being wrong and will do the opposite of popular opinion because if he did and it worked. Well doesnt that then prove how poor a manager he is? I guarantee he will only make the 1 change mainoo for gallagher because he refuses to accept the way he is setting us up to play doesnt work.
