You have a great family, there are normal hiking miles and there are Lake District miles, a very good effort, well done. I could not attempt the second climb and just stayed in the pub you would have past at the start of the second assent.

Thanks for the kind comments. Your plan makes more sense than ours, but we're glad we made it through.

Absolutely, definitely, without a doubt make that day into two days, ie., Stonethwaite toGrassmere and Grassmere to Pattersale. After a late start, it took us more than 5 hours to get to Grassmere. It’s the only time on any of our walks that I threw in the towel and took a taxi / bus. Maybe people used to walking those hills can do it all in a day and still arrive before dinner but that average person will struggle. Congratulations on doing it!

Thanks for the congrats, but as you seem to know, this was a crazy endeavor. I'd like to do the trail again, and we'll definitely use two days for this section. It is hard to stress this enough to others considering the trail.

We really paid for it in subsequent days. I wish we had a do-over on the planning of this one.

11:18 Was there green paint on the sheep or sth?

They had ferns stuck to them. Those ferns had a very rough surface, and they would stick all over the sheep - especially in the neck area.

This was one of those Inns that has been a core part of the Coast to Coast since the start. There was a lot of hiking history there.

@@staceyandmollypilgrims I believe you. Meaning, dispite the _long_ day that should have been two shorter ones, you had the time and stamina to talk to the hosts, I suppose!
