If they wanted football in MK, start a team from the bottom and work up. Not hijack a club and move it 60 miles away. Hopefully MK will be relegated from league2 soon

As a neutral who doesn't support either MK or AFC Wimbledon; My opinion on MK is that they shouldn't really exist, but they do and they're not going away, so we kind of just have to accept them whilst doing what we can to make sure something like that doesn't happen again I think MK dropping the "Dons" part of their name would be a good sign of contrition on their part that could be a nice addendum to things and the beginning of everyone being able to move on Most Wimbledon fans didn't move on to supporting the new club following the move. There's no reason to retain the "Dons" part of the name as it's not like the current MK fans embrace or really care about the legacy of the club prior to it moving to MK Change the name to "MK Town" or "MK United" or something and everyone can start to move on from the whole sordid affair. And if AFC Wimbledon want to just refer to them as MK and nothing else, then that should be allowed. The use of the word "Dons" is a constant jibe and insult to people who lost their club. Allowing them to just refer to the team as "MK" or "Milton Keynes" on program's and the scoreboard shouldn't be an issue and MK complaining to the league in order to compel AFC Wimbledon to do it is just snide and doesn't reflect well on them as a club at all

The reason why MK Dons are hated is because they destroyed Wimbledon FC and moved some 50-60 miles to Milton Keynes on the M1 motorway and AFC Wimbledon was formed in 2002. And MK Dons aren’t really called The Dons. They should of not existed today and many football fans have called them plastic tinpot club.

I don’t mind MK Dons now that AFC Wimbledon is back and doing things. Was pretty lame when they tried to claim all of Wimbledon FC’s accomplishments as their own. Not even sure why a club would want to do that. But good luck to them both going forward

One thing that's always fascinated me with the two of them is how petty the rivalry can get, even to point where when playing each other AFC Wimbledon refuse to call them by their name, I believe they've gotten in trouble with the EFL for doing this

Not for me, they have basically found a loop hole to get a football league place. Should have stared where AFC Wimbledon did
@RW-nr6bhАй бұрын
I agree that a club in Milton Keynes should have been built up from scratch, but half the problem was the old Wimbledon kept on trying to pull daft tricks like moving to Dublin and was refusing to ever go home to Plough Lane (which they still owned and played reserve matches at, I went to one in the late 1990s) on the basis that the site was too confined. Luton didn't do that, they seated Kenilworth Road to a tiny capacity and got on with it, as did Oxford United at the Manor Ground until they could move to the Kassam. Wimbledon seemed to think they shouldn't have to drop down the League because of their inadequate ground that they'd never invested in. Allowing the old listless Wimbledon to go off and vanish to MK was wrong yet at the same time worked for the overall best for football in Wimbledon. They got a club that the fans really have a stake in, and a ground at Plough Lane (albeit the old dog track, I went there once too).

The sanctimonious dross about MK is really irritating. Normal fans couldn't give a toss about MK more than the two times a season (if that) they play them-its AFC Wimbledon's problem/issue. More to the point is how PL Clubs have long been stolen from their fans-if you want sports franchise clubs look at Arsenal Liverpool Man City Spurs etc etc-they couldn't give a toss-if you dont like their "most affordable" season ticket they're happy for you to bugger off-they've got a huge queue of franchise loving fans who'll pay that and more; the ESL and games abroad WILL happen as thats what the TV franchise cash wants and the clubs franchise owners want. They're getting rid of the old fan base (there's a whole generation now who think football was invented in 1992 and know zilch else) There's a lot worse in the game today than MK . If you're not AFC just butt out and worry about how feanchised your own "Big" club's become.
@alancawfield6549Ай бұрын
The best thing that could happen to MK Dons is for Red Bull to buy them and for them to become Red Bull Milton Keynes. I'm actuallly surprised Red Bull haven't seen the potential for it yet and it would cause less controversy as they'd be taking over an already fake club.
@robertlavers5524Ай бұрын
Mate, did you actually research this before pressing record? So many inaccuracies that you could have clearly avoided if you bothered to just google. Wimbledon wasn’t ‘stolen’, it was saved after their fans abandoned them in 2002 and formed AFC. Mk wasn’t formed until 2 years later, so the people that hate them most are either uninformed or the ones that created the avenue to sanction the move.

@RW-nr6bh2 ай бұрын
There is very much a rehabilitation of the old Wimbledon's reputation. I think a lot of it does come from people who never saw the old Wimbledon. Gary Lineker (I think) said he'd rather watch them on Ceefax. Of course the way in which Wimbledon were ultimately moved to Milton Keynes was wrong, but they'd been effectively homeless and directionless for years. Also when the same thing happened in Scotland to Meadowbank Thistle, nobody kicked up any fuss; maybe people should. Franchise style moves were born in Scotland and spread to England. In the long term it did the broader cause of football in Wimbledon good because it forced change and allowed a club to be built from the ground up. I was very pleased when they got back to the League. I don't hate MK Dons. I didn't in 2004 either, although I never liked how they were created. I've been there as an away fan, it's well appointed but without a large crowd it's soulless. The two much younger lads in front of me going through the turnstile, probably unaware of much of the history were very open about how impressed by the stadium they were.
