Elizabeth I lived a life of tremendous ups and downs. In her 69 years, she was at one point a bastard Princess, a prisoner, and a glorious monarch - ruling as a woman in her own right. Elizabeth was one of the most astute rulers England ever had. So what did she really look like? In today’s video, we’ll explore her life, history, and true appearance. We’ll discuss which portraits of her may be the most accurate, her resemblance to her mother Anne Boleyn, and of course reveal some re-creations.

I honestly cannot fathom how clever and brilliant she was, to know that in that time, with a mother murdered by your dad, surrounded by men manipulating and plotting to marry and/or murder you, knowing all those perils... Yet she remained calm, was irreligious, sought reform and finally, marketed herself as a lifelong virgin (what a stroke of genius!). England was blessed with her reign. I'm taking notes.

She was brilliant. I feel a close connection with her bc I study Latin and Ancient Greek. Most people don't know that Queen Elizabeth was also a scholar. She was so good at Latin that she could improvise a speech in perfect Latin. She read Ancient Greek, I've heard, every day with a tutor. That's a side of her most people don't know. Her first tutor, Roger Ascham, praised her for her brilliant intelligence.

She paid a high price for being England's Queen. She was magnificent, & her true beauty was in how she led her country through some very treacherous times. She is my favorite woman of all time. Imagining her on her horse, giving her famous speech to her men as the Spanish were starting their invasion, still thrills me. That people still know in 2023, 465 years later, not only her name, but the story of her life better than their current leaders, no matter which country they live in, kind of sums it up perfectly.

Just when I think you can't outdo yourself, Becca. My word. This is just such a vivid recreation: Elizabeth just leaps into our world, and comes to life! I love how you captured her humor and wit in that image, too. I've got to stop as I'm gushing, but I think other images to kind of round out the Tudor collection would be: Henry VII, Edward VI, Mary I (Bloody Mary), Philip II of Spain, and Robert Dudley would be so awesome to round out the family (and I do consider Robert Dudley to be an honorary Tudor as he would have been one if he could have, Roberts have to stick together after all lol).

Absolutely love this. Thank you so much for the informative history and amazing recreations of a much beloved Queen. Elizabeth resembles so much to Cate Blanchet and Meryl Streep. Elizabeth I truly was a mix of both Anne and Henry. She had the famous red/gold Tudor hair and pale complexion, with her mothers beautiful dark eyes and oval-shaped face. She had her mothers intelligence and charisma, but her fathers fierce temper. One can simply imagine the sheer power she held when standing in her presence.

That was a beautiful recreation. I can imagine Elizabeth seeing herself like that in the mirror. However, it is untrue that Elizabeth never mentioned her mother. She had great respect for Anne Boleyn and put in a lot of efforts to make apparent her disdain for her dad's actions. She surrounded herself with the Boleyn relatives (Mary's daughter who may be her half sister, the Howard family). Even her governess Kat Ashley was a Boleyn connection!

_“She surrounded herself with the Boleyn relatives (Mary’s daughter who may be her half sister, the Howard family).”_ This doesn’t make sense. Can you please re-write it as normal English sentences that can be easily followed? Mary, the half sister of Elizabeth, wasn’t related to Anne. And what does the Howard family have anything to do with this?

She was the epitome of the anthem Rule Britania. I have always admired Elizabeth I due to her absolute determination to never have a man tell her what to do. She was fierce in her belief of herself and set a marvelous example for the next Elizabeth to sit the throne. Thank you for this video. This was a great video. Elizabeth I is one of my favorite historical figures. My family is descended through Mary Boleyn and my own sister looks very much like the modern version of Elizabeth, with that beautiful red hair and dark eyes. Their facial structures are similar also. I always envied that red hair. I married my husband who has red hair and later we learned he is descended from Mary Queen of Scots. Did we get red heads? NO! But out of our 18 grandchildren 5 five red hair, and one granddaughter is much as I would imagine Elizabeth was, red hair and all. This was lovely. Thank you.

The Egyptians, Etruscans, Romans, Greeks, Phoenicians, Vikings culture, and all the nobility kings, and queens of Europe were black up until the 1800s. You have been in power for less than 300 years.
