Fixing a pellet stove I got for cheap off of craigslist

I bought mine for $100 and spent $50 fixing it. Ignitor did not work which was just the burn pot gasket. Also added new door and glass seals. The main issue with mine was the blower fan was squealing. After tearing apart the motor I found it just had friction bearings in it and the felts had dried up and decomposed. I bought felts off McMaster Carr PN 95571A650, installed them and oiled them up. Works great now and auto ignite also works. The burn pot tends to get warped on these units causing the gasket to not seal and does not allow the ignitor to work properly. I straightened my burn pot and installed the new gasket. Works every time now. They actually recommend replacing the burn pot gasket every year.

nice, I picked up my second englander stove 2 months ago from someone who baught a house to renovate. we got a stainless steel gas stove and dishwasher and the pellet stove for $100. The pillow block bearing failed which is what failed on my original one and when I bought replacements I purchased 4 new ones. Just replaced it today and it works perfect!!!!

i hauled one away for free, and all it needed was to grease the pillow bearings, they stopped using it because it was squeeling.......then I scraped the caked on carbon from the lower auger hole and it works great.......DOH!

You can buy most parts on ebay for less than 1/2 of Englander's pricing. Have spare auger motors if you depend on the stove. It pays to buy premium pellets. More heat for about 30% less pellets and 1/2 the ash. Clean out the heating element hole. It's not a reliable self starter. If it doesn't start, try putting a longer pellet into the hole. I run mine 24/7 so starting isn't an issue. The bottom auger runs all the time, the top auger cycles based on the heat setting. The bottom left button on the control panel sets minimum feed. Mine is set to 1. Factory is 6. 6 will burn 40 lbs of pellets in about 10 hours. 1 just keeps the stove warm, but makes calling for more heat faster than if the stove was off and cooled down.

Awesome Brett, people dont do their homework on this stuff before giving up. Like the old saying goes " finders keepers, losers weepers." A buddy of mine got a new lawnmower from this guy for free. He said if he could get it to work it was his. He took it home and squeezed the fuel bulb and it started right up. The guy didn't read the instructions when he bought it😁

Have owned this model for about fifteen years. Replaced one auger motor keep the auger bearings greased. Have made some mods my hopper holds 120 pounds of pellets. Hard to keep clean. A shop vac with a paper bag liner helps a lot. The igniter system never really worked well when it was new. I just use charcoal lighting fluid.

I'm thinking about buying a used one, would you recommend?
@bleepnsheep23104 жыл бұрын
@@stevenh4970 I have only owned the one you see here. It is a pain to keep clean and it definitely needed a bigger hopper. I've seen many used New Englanders for sale but they have many components that can go bad. But all of them seem to be available on line. I lack the experience to make good recomendations.

The augers also have a grease fittings on them which I never knew till I started having trouble with the upper one on mine also. Just greasing mine fixed it.

I do have this exact stove but have never come across this problem, but it is good to know how to fix the issue if it comes. Thanks

You want the tip of the ignitor to be about 1/4-1/3" back from the hole in the burn pot. That'll allow the superheated air to ignite the pellets sitting against the hole. Still takes aggravatingly long to get er going though even when things are working right.

Thanks 4 this video! I'm gonna try to fix mine now. Doing same thing

The upper auger doesn’t turn with the door open, it is wired through a pressure switch behind the distribution blower.
@matthewkeller9271 Жыл бұрын
I bet you that the top motor wasn't spinning because the vacuum hose that's attached to the combustion chamber was rotted around the tip and thus not forming a vacuum. Mine did the same thing

I'm having issues with mine. It's only a year old. It will not feed with a full 40 pounds of pellets. It just started doing it. It was jammed with a load of bad pellets that I cleared out. The bag of pellets was damp.

This was my exact model of our first pellet stove. It was ok the first year but constant failures. We have a Harmon Invincible and is the best and easy to work on.

Whats gonna make my auger stop after a few hrs of running?
@bucksgarage15 жыл бұрын
Not sure exactly. Mine did the same thing last week I took the auger out reinstalled it and it worked again. Make sure the door is closed tight. Lack of pressure on the pressure sensor would stop it also.
@alotl1kevegas8605 жыл бұрын
There is a vacuum pressure switch that is wired in line with the auger. Usually they get dirty, or will go bad, and it kills the power to the auger. There is 2 of these vacuum sensors. Bypass one at a time and see if your auger works. I guarantee it will :)
@mpcclc63973 ай бұрын
check hoses for cracks stove burn chamber works on positive pressure, also make sure gaskets seal tight and ash tray is tight.
