England with VAR back then would be down to ten men. Fenwick off. The Maradona fireworks happened in the 2nd half. Yes he hand balled it, but he did it in part because Fenwick was still on the pitch which he saw as an injustice. Get out of Blighty sometime, u might just see things in perspective.In fact, re watch the fucking game, which u havent since 1986.

Both the Everton and Tottenham Gary Stevens were involved in the goal but Hoddle received a pass from the Everton one but made a pass to the Tottenham one, and it was the Tottenham one and not the Everton one who made the third goal for Lineker. I am not disputing what you have stated but it was not the point I was making regarding the OP's comment.

@expedition16 I honestly think No. France and (West) Germany had no fear against big nations - hence the way both took the game to Brazil (France QF) and Argentina (West Germany Final) in games in the tournament. We bottled it v Argies - very very negative despite the cheat goal and the wonder goal. We never played until the last 20 mins. Needed to get at them in the 1st half the way (an average) Italian team did in the group stages and got a draw

Lineker on the ground 2:33 , even a minute or more before that. They kept passing the ball even if the incident looks harsh and ugly. Weird to see that from the England team. Unexplanable behaviour, i guess.

Because football tends to follow trends and the putting the ball out wasn't really thought of back then as you were unlikely to get it back if you did, so either the referee stopped play to let the player receive treatment, or you just carried on until the ball went out of play or in this case a goal was scored. Plus when the putting the ball out thing first started, it was the opposition who put it out as a favour to the team with the injured player and so it was only fair to give them the ball back. Yet some players who did not seem to get that, would put the ball out because of their own injured player and then still expect it back when the game started and then make it an issue if the opposition did not give it back. If you put the ball out for your own injured player then a loss of possession is the price you pay for getting treatment for your player, but if the opposition does it then for want of a better expression you "owe" them and so should give them the ball back.

The foul was on Lineker by the Paraguayan, from the reverse angle (as shown on BBC analysis) it’s more obvious, the defender pulls Lineker down and goes down with him, so to speak.

Hiboux On Fire, come on! Lineker is the one that comes charging down on the Paraguayan player Zabala and then takes advantage, with the Paraguayan player down, to score in an empty net. If VAR had existed back then that goal would have been disallowed. Just like Maradona’s first goal in the next game.

Sorry old chap, I beg to differ. On the second replay (from behind the goal) you can see Zabala sticks his left arm up to try and block Lineker, Lineker runs through it and Zabala stumbles over. He doesn’t make any protest when the goal is scored which says enough. However the Martin foul on Cabanas should have been a penalty

Tienes razón: los Argentinos querían evitar que se desvelara el fraude por eso: 1) permitieron que Italia los venciera para poder terminar segundos de su grupo y de esa manera 2)poder enfrentarse a Brasil en la segunda ronda,ya que todos sabemos que Brasil es el rival mas débil de un mundial y asi llegar a la final ,pero 3) arreglaron un empate con Brasil ( y no una victoria que hubiese evitado que el tercer partido frente a Perú fuera decisivo).Pero para disimular el arreglo decidieron empatar con Brasil y 4) prefirieron arreglar una goleada a Perú 5) y para no despertar las sospechas los Peruanos mandaron 2 veces el balón al palo de la portería argentina.6) y después en la final los Holandeses mandaron un tiro al palo de la portería de Argentina en el último minuto del partido cuando iban empatando (empate arreglado obviamente) ,de modo tal que si el balón entraba después de tocar el palo,Holanda ganaba el mundial..Pero los Holandeses calcularon a propósito la trayectoria del balon para que sólo tocara el palo y volviera en el area de juego en vez de convertirse en gol. 8) Y de esa manera pudieron jugar una prórroga arreglada en la que Argentina metió 2 goles arreglados y se coronó campeona del mundo. Todo se explica.

A argentina le convenía perder con Italia para no caer en el grupo coformado por Alemania, Holanda y Austria. De esta manera iba a jugar con Polonia y Perú dos selecciones accesibles y después sacar un empate en el clásico le daba grandes chances de clasificar a la final. Pero dados los resultados tuvo que arreglar con los peruanos para que vayan a menos y de esta forma conseguir los goles necesarios que le den la clasificación.
