Spain deservedly won the tournament, they were the best team, they all knew their roles and what was expected of them. The saddest part of this England team is the talent is there but yet again we have a manager / coach who seems unable to slot round pegs into round holes. His loyalty to certain players has cost England, bringing an unfit left back with no natural left footed cover, severely hampered the team going forward and directly affected other players, Trippier is not a left back or wing back, he continued with Kane for to long, then to admit in his interview, we was struggling for fitness and form, is disgraceful, Toney, Watkins, Palmer, Bowen and Gordon have all been criminally underused especially the last 2. Spain had 2 young and direct wingers, we kept our 2 warming the bench, when a direct running in behind was needed. To paraphrase a classic Morecambe and Wise Christmas Special, I have all the right players, but I am playing them in the wrong position. This team has the potential to be very good, what need is a manager who knows how to get the best out this team.

PLAYER LOYALTY OVER CLUB & FAN LOYALTY. This is the problem with some managers at the highest level. Cup level. For one example, Southgate will show 100% loyalty to an unfit tired Harry Kane by playing him and lose a cup. Howe would do the same with say Wilson. Leaving super stars like Gordon on the bench. Generally they are very good managers. But this kind of lack of basic common sense at cup final level, renders them and the club impotent. Everyone suffers. I don't think Alex Ferguson had that problem. Sure, play Kane or Wilson when they're fit. Fine!

Finally recovered enough to say something 😂 Southgate was not the manager for this team, he is too scared and too defensive. When you have the quality of players that we had, we should have won it. But the biggest mistake was his starting XI. When you have a player like Kane who likes to sit deep and arrive late in the box you need players that are wiling to make box crashing runs (like Gordon does). We had Saka, but because there was no outlet on the left, they could just swamp him. Combined with the fact that Foden and Belingham both like to sit a little deeper, meant our attacking line was about 10-15ft too far back. The team wasn't set up to win, it was set up NOT TO LOSE, and so we played with the mindset that we needed to close shop and low block a 1 goal lead, instead of going out for 2 or 3 more goals. Southgate was never the man for this job, we only got to the semi finals because of individual acts of brilliance from key players, that had nothing to do with tactics or set up. If we had starred with Gordon, Watkins, Saka up front. Rice, Bellingham, Mainoo in mid. And Hall, Guehi, Stones, Walker in the back. It would have given us a much better, more balanced team with faster and more aggressive outlets for attack.

Let's celebrate that we're the second best team in Europe right now. We're better than Italy, the Netherlands, Germany etc etc. With a new manager who processes basic common sense, we'll be number one.
