This song is really hard but by the time I realized that it was too late and I had doomed myself to this madness. I originally wrote these lyrics years ago and tried to work with another cover artist to release it, but it didn't work out. So I tried to revisit it ... Nope, still madness. I wrote two versions, one with the syllables matching closely and one where I was a lot more liberal with them.
I choose to keep the close timing for the first half and allow myself more freedom as the song continued, since opinions are always split down the middle between "accuracy" and "Westernization". The Japanese lyrics are just as 'story'-like during the verses. To me, it's more like she's frantically telling a story and spirals out at the end than she's singing a song. I didn't get the sense that a perfectly flowing execution was what Kikuo was going for during the verses. Especially in a song about destroying things.
I'm sorry I keep straying outside of my element lately, instead of building to things gradually. I've been out of it.
Thanks for being patient with me. I'll probably be kind of out of the loop for a bit longer, at least until after December because I'm moving again ... yay (not really). There are some other spook songs that will trail behind into November.

a lot of the explanations for the story is either pretty close or absolutely off. to clarify: this is about a girl who's obsessed with breaking things because people's "souls" are bound to the objects they hold sentimental value to. the more important, the more she wants to break it. the breaking of the objects and the grief from the people who are affected by it gives her a sick sense of satisfaction, and throughout the song the story progressively explains her love for that guilty pleasure. eventually, she meets someone who falls in love with her and she feels the same way about them, but she cant help but be aware of how *bound* to her they are, temptation being the winning opposer and she kills herself in order to keep satisfying her obsession. she broke herself so that they would grieve and hurt over it, which she loved the thought of. ("break it - fix it; in this case wont you please let it be because i still wont be able to say sorry" is a good addendum of how a part of her MIGHT have felt bad for doing this but she couldn't help herself because it felt so good, so she wants them to leave her dead and try not to bring her back because she wouldn't know how to explain herself.)

I thought that the character is quite toxic. Constantly lashing out on others and breaking not only things of value to others but also maybe a connection they once had to the owner? I still believe that the end implies one person, probably the boyfriend, tried to reach out and loves them though the protagonist caused so much harm and she doesn't know what to do anymore. She has the desire to destroy but she also still loves him somewhere. So because she wants to "say sorry" in order to protect him AND because of the fact she destroys what matters most to the other person, she ends up destroying herself. Quite tragic.

@@chrissi975 Love the explaination but slight correction; It's main character, not protagonist. She's more of an antagonist. There's a difference, main character is who the story's focused around while the protagonist is the good guy. Usually the protagonist and main character are the same person, but in many different stories they're different people (For example; Madoka Magica, MC is Homura and the Protag is Madoka) So it's easy to confuse and mix up, don't worry :)

The lyrics become sad once you know what it's about. (SPOILER) It tells the story of a person who enjoys destroying things which other people have become attached to. She starts off with smaller things, like trinkets and accessories important to those whom they belong to. Then, she moves on to sentimental artworks to destroy the souls 'attached' to them. Her obsession culminates in a suicide when she falls in love with someone who returns her feelings. With his soul now 'attached' to hers, she kills herself in order to satisfy her obsession.

I think the music is about a person (the singer) who likes to get into relationships and hurt their partners (breaking their souls, treating them like objects), wih the singer taking joy of it. But one day they happened to find a person who loved them genuinely and when the singer started to feel the same for them, they realized that they didn't want to hurt them like all the others, so to keep their loved one safe the singer stopped seeing them (or even killed themselves), leaving both of them hurt and broken

This song hits me deep in the feels tbh. I think it's about someone who has a compulsion to break everything someone loves (obviously) and know that things are valuable, but they cant quite grasp how valuable it is because their mind is just filled with the compulsion to break it. They start with things that dont really matter but would just cause a little inconvenience, but then that's too little because people wouldn't make a huge reaction, so they break wonderful and time taking pieces like art, instruments, and statues. This would make people really angry and give them a rush, but they know that there is something way more valuable they could break: the human mind. Think about it, the family and loved ones of the person who they broke would get REAL angry. Like, murderous intent level. I couldn't possibly imagine what kind of rush that would give this person, but I do imagine that its borderline orgasmic. I also do assume that the person who sings this song doesnt have any friends and no real connection with their family because of how much they break things they love, that'll come up later. So, the person gets into multiple relationships, romantic or otherwise, with the sole intent to break that person's heart and mind assuming through manipulation and pure nonsense. Until on fateful day, the day they go to break up with someone after emotional manipulating and possible physical abuse, the broken person says that they love the manipulator. I believe this is the first time the manipulator has ever experienced unconditional love, if they ever experienced love in general. Their lack of experience in love causes them to think that the person they manipulated's "soul" was now just attached to them instead of being broken, and they would have to shatter themselves to get that final rush of adrenaline. And so, our protagonist gets ready to take their own life after an undecided amount of time. but before they do, they sit down and think. and yeah, the adrenaline was hitting hard, but not as hard as before. I think they just felt mostly, well, sad. disappointed and disgusted in themself and their pervertedness. They realized how they self sabatoged themselves, and instead of killing themself out of adrenaline, they kill themselves because of shame, and the thought of being a burden on society, on the world, and on the only person who loves them unconditionally. I think the girl reaching out her hand to the screen is the person who loves our protagonist unconditionally, and as the protagonist fades out from reality and Into deaths arms, they see their loved one being shattered, the one thing they wanted. They achieved their goal, and found a way to break someone's soul until the very day they died, but they didnt get a rush. They thought about them not being able to say sorry, they thought of why the person they love would miss them, why anyone would miss them. and the girl reaching out doesn't fade out either, she just spins in limbo until the song ends. I think this song is a look into our protagonists mind, when the song starts, they are a child. when it ends, they die. so that's why I think the girl doesnt fade out from the protagonist's mind, they actually didnt want to see her actually shatter, the thought was just so appealing it led to their death. I think while the protagonist was still alive, they actually did try to find ways the break her soul so they didnt have to die, but it was no use so here we are. Based off the original lyrics, it’s about a person (I’ll just call them Kikuo and refer to him as “he” lol) who grew up loving to break things and as he grew up he kept breaking more and more important things. It got to the point where he became a murderer. Someone came along and fell in love with him without knowing Kikuo’s dark side. Their feelings were mutual towards one another but Kikuo loved killing too much and decided to kill both himself and the person he loved because he knew they were both important to each other and loved destroying important things. I think they find a kind of sick joy out of destroying people's things, especially well loved things, because they see that it slowly destroys the person. They're obsessed and they can't stop themselves anymore. They see that the person they love loves them more than any object, and I think they kill themselves to ultimately destroy their person, saying that they're taking their soul with them and leaving their own soul behind with the one they love. While I do agree about the beginning ( as it's pretty literal ), in which the person is breaking and destroying things that people love, the second chorus is where I start differing in my own opinion. I don't think it's the case of becoming a murderer like some, as the lyrics don't seem that way during that part. It moreso seems like that this person breaks people in the sense that they take on a possibly abusive, soul-crushing behaviour towards them - to the point they break mentally and 'lose their soul'. What makes it worse is that they break things they love - so these people can be those who were once close to them. I think that the one that falls in love with this person is implied to be aware of their behavior, and yet the one loves this person anyways. I don't see any reason this person would hate the one if they want to break them, too. And they even say that they have each other's souls resonating within one another. The ending might be that this person genuinely kills themselves, or that they go as far as to 'break' themselves like they have to those people, wanting to see the look on the one's face and how they feel once they rid of themselves one way or another.

God your Kikuo covers go in all the time Though in this case, the translation is really awkward - the need to match the syllable count 1:1 ruins the rhythm of the song. For example, "I get excited and I can't fight it", the stress is all over the place. Lyrics like "I get excited, I can't fight it", or "getting excited, I can't fight it" have 1 less syllable to match, but they still sound a lot better. Most of this cover seems like the audio version of when you write too big at the start and have to squeeze letters in at the end to fit on the page, and it sounds like you're stumbling over the entire song.
