As soon as Deco-sama released this song I've gotten a few messages asking when my cover would be out haha... thanks for the wait ♪
I haven't been this excited for a cover in a long long time. There was so much that could be done with the song, but ultimately I decided to add in the intro track from the album that flows into AG. I also decided to add some Two Breaths Walking glitches into the intro and MAN does it sound amazing! Of course, I only have Rez to thank for his hard work on this so please follow him and consider commissioning him for a mix!
When translating this song I found a really strange line I just couldn't figure out (をかしくなっちゃった), even looking through other people's translations resulted with nothing so I asked my friend Esh what was up! Knowing Deco-sama it's definitely a pun of some sort with the word "(おかしいokashii)," which means "strange". After a lot of looking around we found a dictionary entry for かしい that stylised it as "貧しい者 (kashiimono)," which means "someone who is needy/in lack of something." Essentially the line means "I need you so bad, Android girl, I've become strange." Just some trivia for people who were wondering since I was so mindblown when I found out myself!!
It was a huge struggle to put together these lyrics and have this song on repeat because it meant so much to me. I really felt Deco-sama was calling me out on what's been happening these past few years with my channel haha. I don't want to explain it here since the lyrics probably won't be able to fit if I do.

Im just gonna put my interpretation here incase it helps someone! After watching two breaths walking i think the story goes like this : They met when they were children and as they grew up a bit they fell in love, but the boy didn't know how badly he was hurting her, with his words or a metaphorical or literal knife I'm not really sure. Eventually as they grew older and learned he realized he was hurting her and decided to cut himself away from her. I think she is chasing him down and attacking him the same way he used to do to her because she doesn't understand why he didn't love her anymore, so in an attempt to rekindle that relationship (despite being unhealthy they were young and didnt know how proper relationships should be) she's trying to imitate how he used to act. The boy still feels guilty about how he treated her and is hesitant to fight back because of it, but when he catches the knife he sees his younger self and android girl, and how their positions have switched. Up until then he "doesnt know who she is" because he cant understand why she would want to attack him for any reason other than revenge, but in reality they both miss the close reliant relationship they had. WOAH OK SO I SAW SOMETHING AT 3:46 THAT JUST CLICKED AN INTERPRETATION IN MY MIND OOF. so, I'm a little late to this video but, I think the story (counting two breaths walking) is that they meet when they're children, but the boy doesn't know how to speak her language so she gives him a book to learn how to speak her language. I think either he learns it wrong and says things that hurt her or he says things that hurt her and doesn't realize it (most likely his mother taught him incorrectly). now they are older and she is using harsh language back at him and he doesn't know why. when she goes to stab him and he sees himself, he sees that he was the one who hurt her first and is realizing what it was like to be on the receiving end of those words. what got me was the fact that he takes the book from his child self's hands meaning he finally knows what to say to "Shut her off" (aka stops her fro attacking cause he knows how to speak to her now).

There's a light novel on this. I think above comment explained it? I'm not certain which one of them is an android, perhaps both. In a nutshell, the girl opened up to him and taught him many things (probably guiding him as the older android), and he develop feelings for the girl. But his mother (researcher?) is an asshole and doesn't want her 'son' to be taken away from her, so she taught him the exact opposite of 'how to love' which ended up hurting the girl. He grows up confused as why the girls he tries to show love to ended up hating him, not aware what he did was wrong. And now all grown up, the regret unknowingly come back biting him. The 'android girl' in the video might not even be the girl herself, might also be to be the physical manifestation of his guilt because she changed into younger him in last chorus when she tried stabbing him (up to your own view). When he come to realize why she was hurt by his actions, the 'android' dies off. Either the girl is indeed the older girl and is satisfied that he finally recognize his fault, or he had come around and understood why he felt so burdened and the manifestation of his 'guilt' disappear. I hope Deco27 make an ending song of the two. I want to buy the novel but translating on my own will took waaaay too long for an exhausted uni student (Ｔ▽Ｔ)

I think there is also something going on with her being an Android. We know that the boy hurt the girl constantly during their relationship, and we can infer this whole video is from the POV of the boy, so I offer you this: The boy saw the girl as an Android in his own mind, maybe because she was "feelingless", she was an "object" in his mind to fulfill his every need, hence him being a "kid" on their flashback, that's why in the end she's "breaking down", because she's being emotive and the boy isn't used to it, representing it as her "malfunctioning" as he has no other explanation for her finally showing how deep the trauma of their relationship truly was.

I remember this song when it came out 4 years ago and I know no one is going to see this but I think I finally understand this song now. Two Breaths Walking is the prequel to this, I believe, where the heroine expresses her own part in the failed relationship we see here in Android Girl. She talks about how she's being clingy to the guy she likes and in order to keep him in her life she's willing to use her sexuality to keep him engaged with her. She talks about lifting her legs which I think translates to them being intimate. And becoming an "oxygen tank" in that context is them kissing more often than having conversations with each other. If you've ever kissed someone or been affectionate or intimate in some way and just kinda shut your brain off, shut down, maybe wondered "why am I doing this again?"- this song talks about that feeling. I want to emphasize that I believe these two are being 100% consensual. But sometimes we kinda go on autopilot through certain aspects and periods of our lives, and that can include relationships even with our partners. I think it's our way of coping with something. In the heroine's case, she's coping with loneliness due to what I believe is an absentee mother due to some specific language in TBW. She didn't get the love she wanted from a parental figure, so she seeks to fill that void elsewhere. But because she doesn't feel validated in herself, her insecurities lead her to seek to please this guy she likes at any cost. The cost ends up being her own sense of self, thus defeating what made that relationship feel worthwhile in the first place. But she's so scared of losing him that she isn't willing to let go or be assertive in what she wants. This brings us to "android girl". Our heroine is in this "autopilot" stage where she feels more of a robot, hollow shell of mechanical moving parts and programming rather than a real person with true thoughts and feelings of her very own. I think the book represents "her instruction manual" that she hands over to him and he grows to resent her for it. I think they both initially go into a friendship and then relationship earnestly- truly caring about the other person. But as she grows clingier and desperate to please, she loses her autonomy. And he feels trapped with a burden of being her "operator" when that's not what he really wanted. But he also wants to make her happy. Their own inability to communicate (the manual he takes but based off the visuals I think he abandons) and their own insecurities about being real with each other on their feelings causes them to fight and lash out at each other. But they're unable to grow or sever their ties, so they "make up" but it's not a real apology as they make no efforts to change their behavior. They just want the fighting to stop, but they enter a cycle instead and that's why they keep hurting each other. This is a toxic relationship for them both where they're both seeming like good people who need to work on themselves. They're not ready for each other and now they may need to just go their separate ways. Android Girl I believe has finally come to this realization as the knife represents her trying to sever their relationship (not actually murder him haha). But she keeps shutting down, essentially getting "cold feet" because she can't imagine her life without him even if it hurts her. Meanwhile, he's trying to run away from her because he also isn't able to cut ties with her. Even when she "picks a fight with him" he still continues to engage with her but doesn't confront her about their relationship. I think at the end, he finally accepts "the instructional manual for Android Girl" when she admits to him her true feelings of hurt. Since he truly cares for her, he doesn't want to keep causing either of them pain. This allows him to actually understand what she needs from him, which is to cut ties with him. She successfully drives the knife into him, symbolizing the end of their relationship, which brings a relieved smile to her face. Not sure how accurate this interpretation is to what the original intention of the video is, but I think Rachie did a fantastic job with capturing the Japanese essence into English. Comparing the two lyrics with my theory in mind, at least, this cover really nailed the heart of the song.

I... didn't listen to this? When it first came out? Because, I'll admit, a lot of the time covers from English cover artists just throw the original lyrics (and rhythm, and sound, and beat) into the trash. And I love this song so much, and I didn't want to see that happen to it. Well, that didn't happen. You fucking rocked this one. The lyrics are PERFECT; things I had no idea how to translate (ずっと; in this translation "yet I" or "guess I've") are absolutely indisputably on-point. I honestly hate when people say things like "wig snatched" or whatnot in the comments but I seriously cannot think of a single way to describe how my assumption was so _thoroughly_ shredded by these lyrics and vocals and how much respect I gained for you as a translyricist and singer upon hearing. Suspenders? Well, blame it on Akka, pretty sure that's who designed the boy from the animation. But I think they decided to draw him with those suspenders on because they have a stripe pattern which resembles the stripes on the headband that Niina (his girlfriend) wears. That would make it a clever design choice that indicates that the two have some sort of bond with one another through making them wear accessories from the same design style.

First of all, I love the cover and the lyrics and everything about this upload!! Secondly, I have an interpretation! So this is my interpretation of the song and it's probably wrong but this is what I think?! The boy is tired of his friendship/romance with the girl as he feels she no longer truly cares about his feelings and is very selfish with what they have. She always is kind to him and gives him too much but asks for his time to which he feels guilty as he may not reciprocate those pleasantries for his own reasons and simply hates them. But he enjoys her company and selfishly stays around for that and the things she gives him. He feels he doesnt deserve it and that she is reinforcing the bad parts of him and grows to resent her for putting up with his nasty and selfish behaviour and wants her to leave so he becomes neglectful and tries to leave over and over again, but he keeps returning because of this connection they have and she continues telling him words he doesnt want to hear and doing things he doesnt want simply out of her trying to keep things from falling apart because she loves him. He realizes that maybe her kind of love isnt what's wrong but maybe its him when he gets stabbed by her and chooses to accept the love she gives him because he remembers how she stuck by him even though he has hurt her in the past and sees it as a more of an "unconditional love" than a "fake love" and begins to accept it, but realizes that even if he still doesnt deserve her, he wants to give her what she wants, which is him and his loyalty and maybe his understanding too? So in the end, he comes to understand her but he insists it will repeat again as he will never be the kind of person that can live up to the love and praise she gives him. Though he does remember how he loved her once and that he doesnt have the heart to hurt her further than he already did. I think this can be abusive or toxic? It's a somewhat unhealthy relationship but also not? It can be unhealthy on both ends because the girl may be kind but she simply doesnt understand her own niceties are what's hurting him and continues to push them on the boy, thinking that's what is right and he only decides to accept them as she technically isnt doing anything wrong but misunderstanding the situation, just as he misunderstood the way to use words in the past. The kindness and pleasantries are the knife. I dont think the knife is representative of hateful words, but simply words that he doesnt agree with and hurt him because he is hurt by the fact she cant see the bad parts of him and doesnt point them out or encourage him to change and grow as a person, but rather supports him staying the same self, which he hates. He refers to her as an android because he sees her constant attempts as thoughtless and mechanical because its repetition without learning from her past mistakes or as he interprets her as selfishly being unable to understand how he feels. Or maybe it's because she fails to see his flaws and loves him anyway. Idk this is a weird interpretation but it's how I felt about it. Haha sorry if it's a little weird or difficult to understand?
