This song is a potential dark horse at Eurovision. It's so different and it's such a vibe. I really like the instrumentation and their voices. Iceland is great this year and I think they will definitely qualify 🇮🇸

(My bad English translation) At the root of where the silent soul breaks (as if it were a wave breaking e.g. surf) Heavy labour filled with grief A need that attracts, burns Lies hidden - a secret - hush hush With each bread of dawn one can see The beauty of freedom come closer Even though the sun sets again And unsaid words make the mind suffer - hush hush (Chorus) In a dark winter the sun rises Melts the heart's icy shackles - so warm In a dark winter - the gentle spring Brings warmth to your wings (or wingspan) once again The shadows of the short day approach Become more bearable with each breath A little song singing from within (from the chest/heart) Spreads and sighs - hush hush (Chorus) In a dark winter... And she takes flight Soars to highest heights And moves closer to Finding inner piece (Chorus) In a dark winter... ------------------------------------------------ It's a song about hope. In Iceland days (where the sun is up) are very short during the winters and very long during the summer, this makes the winter hard to bear. But there is light at the end of the tunnel because at the peak of the misery, the day starts to grow longer as spring approaches. This is very relevant to the bad things happening as of late. It is a song to all who suffer, a reminder of good times after the bad, a reminder of hope.

'Systur' kind of gives that away. Icelandic and English share a lot of words, some words are exactly the same, but a lot of them are very similar, almost closer than French phonically. 'Systur' is obviously 'Sister'...

"Með hækkandi sól" means "with rising sun". You would pronounce it: Meth high-can-di soul. It's beautiful lyrics, about how winters are long and dark in Iceland, and how hard that time was in the old days. How people longed for the rising sun, and how much hope followed. The songwriter did not expect to win at all, she just wanted to send in a song. So she was very shocked and unprepared for this win. She is an amazing artist, you should look her up. Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir, artist name Lay Low. Hope you like the Icelandic song, but if not, that's fine. Icelandic nation chose it anyways because we love it 😊 One good thing about Icelanders is their stubbornness. Even though the world loved Daði performance last year, we don't need to live on old flames and do simular things again. Those three women and the drummer are all siblings. Their mother, Ellen Kristjánsdóttir, is also amazing singer. Recommend her song, When I think of angles. A song about Ellen brother, who passed away. Best regards from Iceland 🇮🇸

People keep calling this country, but I don't think that actually describes the genre here. Is it just because one of them was wearing a cowboy hat? Because it sounds more like soft rock than country to me.

I like this song but reykjavikurdætur should’ve won though😭 they won the televotes and the jury votes in the grand final but when it came to the top 2 songs to compete for the win they lost because the voting system crashed for them and a lot of people couldn’t vote and just gave up voting at the end, also people just assumed it was an obvious win so they didnt even bother to. Such an unfair win tbh
@kolbrunbjorg65592 жыл бұрын
This is not true, the voting system did not crash at all…and Sigga, Beta og Elín won with over 11 thousand votes more than Reykjavíkurdætur
@Addy19872 жыл бұрын
@@kolbrunbjorg6559 Yeah it's more the fact that all the people that disliked Reykjavikurdætur made sure to vote for Systur on the superfinal so they wouldn't go through. Don't get me wrong, I like both songs in their own way.
@kyartan2 жыл бұрын
@@kolbrunbjorg6559 I mean I saw they stated that, but I tried to vote in the superfinals (I did not vote in the regular finals) and none of my votes went through. Reykjavíkurdætur had 26k votes in the regular finals and 23k in the superfinals. Total amount of votes in the regular finals was 77k and total amount in the superfinals was 56k. How would their total go down in the superfinals if the system was working perfectly fine? And why did the votes drop this much in the superfinals? For comparison, when Hatari won, the total amount of votes in the regular finals was 102k and in the superfinals there were 114k votes. Hatari got 45k votes in the regular finals and 62k in the superfinals. The superfinal vote total went up, and the total amount of votes was significantly higher than now in 2022. Friðrik Ómar, who placed 2nd, got 21k votes in the regular finals and 52k votes in the superfinals. Votes simply do not go down in the superfinals if things are working correctly. The only reason this didn't become an actual ordeal is because after the fact there was nothing that could realistically be done about it and I don't think Reykjavíkurdætur wanted to take away from Sigga, Beta and Elín by making it a bigger deal.
