Mr. Alex you are an excellent teacher. As a Portuguese native speaker the tip about past simple and present perfect was so important to me. Where is she? she went to grocery shopping or she 's gone . that helped a lot. i am watching all your videos and writing them down! i am not able to find adjectives for your didacticism. I indicate you to everyone! you inspire me. congratulations on your channel.

It's so interesting watching these videos as a native english speaker. I wonder what the technical rule is for using them together, like "She's been gone for five years now" which can refer to death. Or, "Where is Bob? He's been gone for five hours and we still haven't heard from him," which refers to someone not dead but away for a prolonged period of time.

Hey, Alex! How are you doing ? Recently I was thinking about the uses of the prepositions (of place) in, at, and to after the verb phrase "I have been..." as an answer for the question "Where have you been ?" According to my research, I have drawn some conclusions: 1. the speaker could use all these three prepostions forementioned depending on meaning and context 2. If "I have been" means "I have gone", the speaker should use the preposition "to" 3. If "I have been" literally implies the present perfect of the verb "to be", the speaker should use either "in " or "at" depending on the position of the prepostion's object concerced to the place. Please correct me if I'm wrong! thanks!

"I've never been to China." "I've never been in China." would also be true. But the first means 'to not have visited' and the second just 'to never be physical' there. But both would have the same level of truth, wouldn't they? Thx. I love engvid. You are the best!

so happy to see your video my best teacher like have one request please explain to us the past perfect continuous and and the presentpc
@engvidAlex7 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea for a lesson! I don't see anything on EngVid that discusses this difference. I'll look into it. For now, I can say that the perfect continuous is for longer actions that started in the past and have continued until the present. The present perfect can be used in a similar way, but it's also used for life experience and uses stative/non-action verbs in addition to action verbs. That's a super simplistic explanation for now!
