According to Oxford English Grammar Course Advanced: "With ANY, NONE, NEITHER and EITHER OF + PLURAL NOUN/PRONOUN, SINGULAR and PLURAL verbs are both POSSIBLE. Plural verbs are usually more informal." Examples: - Do/Does any of these lights work? - None of my friends speak(s) Italian. - Neither of his parents was/were at home.

Thank you madam, the topic has become my concern for a long time and your explanation is very clear , easy to digest and also memorable. I still have a little confusion about the usage of "none" as in the example of "None of the people were hurt", but the meaning is not any single person is hurt, so the usage of singular/plural verb does not consider the meaning of the subject but fully depend on the countable/umcounganle of the subject. Please let me know if I have wrong understanding on this issue.
