The mention of Cross Linguistic transfers between L1 and English is so helpful. Thank you for your channel. Can you do future discussions and present materials on Cross Linguistic Transfer specifically?

In this video I just heard “60% of the English language comes from Spanish.” That is highly inaccurate. You might say that 60% of English words have Latin-based roots (that includes Spanish words because Spanish is Latin-based). The number of words with Spanish roots, including loanwords, does NOT amount to 60% by any means. I don’t have the latest numbers but I estimate that maybe 4% is much closer. Definitely not 60%. That “famous 60%” that gets mentioned very often are cognates with Latin and Latin based languages, not only Spanish. Furthermore, the English language itself, in its primal structure, has Germanic, not romance (Latin-based) language roots.
