Another cracking video As Ian Said below great craftsmanship and attention to detail, need to watch again so I get that hand scribe completely understood. Why don't you machine scribe the joints.
@BradshawJoinery4 жыл бұрын
Basically to match the profile of the existing cupboard I had to tilt the cutter in the spindle, so the scribe cutter wouldn't work. For a one off no point getting cutter and scribe profile made. Also with short grain scribe cutters can sometimes split out so a small hand cut scribe works well

Excellent craftsmanship, perfect scribes, love the smell of white oak. What about a scribing head for the tenoner, for hand scribes get a scribing gouge.
@BradshawJoinery2 жыл бұрын
Cheers James! I have a little scribing gouge, it doesnt take too long to do by hand, but yes a machine tenoned joint is quicker. I cant remeber why i didnt use the tenoner, must have been a good reason lol. You do get dead sharp shoulders on the saw compared to tenonner as a bonus!

Great job and looking good so far , impressed with the results from hand scribing the mouldings . Again I reckon you are improving the quality of my own work as I’m learning with every video you put out, could you do a video on using the tormek to touch up moulder knives I think it’s fair to say a lot of us could do with sharper moulder knives!
@BradshawJoinery4 жыл бұрын
Thanks David, I will have a look a the video. I only hold the cutter flat against the outside of the wheel until its nice and polished. no good if your moulder knives are really blunt as youd have to take a lot of material off!

Dude, you rock! Your shop is awesome, your tools are tip top, and you are a true pro. I wonder if your clients know that--when they hire you--they aren't just getting some wanker, but a real carpenter craftsman? You should charge your clients a premium just for the attention to detail on their projects. Most clients don't know the difference between crap and quality. I hope yours do.

H Pat, Back at you, you rock for such an awesome comment! :D If they dont when your starting they tend to pick u on the fact that you go the extra mile by the time your done.. A lot of repeat work, and nice work for lovely people. Certainly a long way away from the tales of house bashing i keep hearing.

Hello. Great video, all your videos are great. Is this scribing method a good method for an external pattern 10 style door?. It needs an ogee mould on the inside and i was planning chamfered beading on the outside (the client wants an existing set copied, i am going to use accoya instead of the redwood which has rotted out). I don't have a tenoner so cant run a scribe all the way through the shoulder of the rail as most modern doors are done.
@BradshawJoinery Жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely! It's how I would do it if you have a moulding cutter but not a scribe!

Afternoon-Oliver(is it?)....guess its more cost but why not use scribe cutters for tenon ends rather than hand working ?? However,love your work and cant wait for p.3! You brought a tear to my eyes watching p.2.....bring it on! Best regards,Larry.

Hey Larry yes it was afternoon 👍 see my reply to Pete but basically easier quicker and cost also 👍 Thanks as always. 👌

Excellent work, again! Some lovely looking timber. Panel raising looks perfect. With the moulding scribing why do you not mitre them like on the frame? feel like I'm missing something. Also when this gets finished are there any ways to avoid an unfinished strip showing if the panels shrink and pull out of the groove slightly? I'd have considered finishing the panels before assembly but doesn't sound like you're going to. I often see this on stained front doors. Appreciate your timber is old and interior so probably not an issue on this project. Cheers
@BradshawJoinery4 жыл бұрын
THe frame bead is mitred as you cannot scribe a bead moulding around a corner. you use a scribe so as the rails shrink in width the joint can slide along the moulding and not open up a horrible gap that you get with a mitre! Yes finish colour the panels before assembly, that way you hvae the best chance of not highlighting any movement! it also decreases movement if the panel is nice and sealed completely.

You kind of have to buy a saw from the Canadian KZbinr Rob Cosman - they are good - but also what he does for charity .... if not an old classic you know the brands - will it be cheaper to buy new or file down and restore a cheap eBay one? you'll have to sharpen it anyway or pay for someone else to.

Illl look more at the Rob Cosman saws! Thankyou Robert
