I am a new graduated mechanical engineer and I look everything in a sight of engineering while learning how to write an essay. Because I know if one wants to do something perfectly, he or she has to dive into it completely and look all the minute detail inside.

It is obvious that the comma goes with the phrase , instead of that. Much appreciated . As a prep instead can be separated with comma . Not as a conjunction followed by S+V. A clause. Thanks .

I don't think 3 rd part is released. Anyways, bottom line is if the phrase or clause is essential, no comma; if it's non essential, comma; if any interpting information, use comma. It is really helpful. Thank you for such an amazing video.

THANK YOU. THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO I FOUND ON THIS SUBJECT. Is this correct understanding??? comma that , that ? used with unnecessary info interrupting the sentence. Juanita , that girl over there , is actually my former roommate. Also, no comma that when / no comma used with the word that when THAT specifically gives info directly about the noun or verb. Example: Sally said that she was going to buy a new dress.

May I respectfully ask if the use of commas in the following sentences is correct? I know that we only use comma when the subordinating conjunction begins a sentence; whereas, no comma is applied when the SC is used in the middle of a sentence. But I was told by some professors that sometimes this rule is not applicable, especially for parenthetical elements. 1. Marissa went to the party, though she would see her former lovers. 2. I stay positive in the course of global health crises, despite the lack of support from the government.

Thanks for your lessons, Adam. Could you talk about the use of comma with connectors, such as "besides", "also", "hence", "in addition" etc, on your next video about this subject? You talked about "so", "yet" and "for" on the first video, but I don't know if the rule is the same to these other connectors. Thank you!

Hello, I'm interested in it, can an author omit commas in this case, "Fitzgerald's debut novel This Side of Paradise is not widely known."?
@uwinmyint68493 жыл бұрын
I sometimes notice commas are used before such conjunctions as when, because, although, etc., especially in novels. When and why is a comma inserted before such conjunctions?
@jemarbailey39162 жыл бұрын
I think thats because these words are examples of Subordinating Conjunctions that usually begin Adverb clauses which are dependent clauses.
@mariamkinen80364 жыл бұрын
The interruption is an entity of its own despite that clause. I get it. The participles i struggle with.

I really like most of your presentations, but this one is just wrong. Valuable info. Poor structure. You want us to follow your narrative instead of showing clear problem-solution sequence. If your target is native English audience then it's all right. For non-natives this kind of explanation sounds at least boring and unclear. Too many unnecessary details that make us, foreign learners, lost in translation. I mean why or why would I need another academic-like lesson when there are tons of grammar books with much better structure? I think the whole point of a visual lesson is to share data that otherwise is hard to digest. What you've done here seems more like memorising a grammar book lesson and presenting it in video format.
