11:59 the drills will involve both native and non native speakers and will last 10 days. Why we don’t use comma here??
@williamoverly16174 жыл бұрын
Commas are critical to clarification in comprehension. The classic example: "Count out one thousand two hundred and seventy. " (Count out 1,270- or count out 1,200---and then 70 separately.) The comma before "and" makes a significant difference. Technical writers especially are notorious for failing to use commas when clarifying meaning.

Is the serial comma the same as an Oxford comma?
@jhoannamariedemesa1684 жыл бұрын
May I respectfully ask if the use of commas in the following sentences is correct? I know that we only use comma when the subordinating conjunction begins a sentence; whereas, no comma is applied when the SC is used in the middle of a sentence. But I was told by some professors that sometimes this rule is not applicable, especially for parenthetical elements. 1. The physical opening of schools will depend on the risk severity, pursuant to guidelines of the Department of Health. 2. The Secretary is authorizing the holding of Saturday classes, through the conduct of. . . 3. The learning intervention shall formally open in August, while the program duration… 4. Marissa went to the party, though she would see her former lovers. 5. The students decide to play computer games, when they can use their free time meaningfully. 6. I stay positive in the course of global health crises, despite the lack of support from the government. Thank you very much, Sir, for sharing your knowledge.

Hi, I have a question: Do you use a comma after the words "so" and "well" when you start with these on sentences? Also, do you place a comma after "obviously" when it's used this way: He attended the graduation yesterday, and them obviously attended the ball afterwards. Please respond. Hello! Thank you so much for your videos. I have a question though. "In the past, schools encouraged boys to pursue engineering and they encouraged girls to pursue the arts" - I still can use a comma here, can't I? Or because of it being a compound I can't? Then why we used a comma in "...they must be native born, and they must speak all the country's official languages..."?

yup. the sentence will be now compound predicate. encouraged boys to pursue engineering ,and girls the art. if you just type girls the art,it wont make sense since it is a dependent clause.

I'm not expecting an answer as this is 2 years old already, but your first example is confusing me. There's a big difference in 'A,B, and C' and 'A, B and C'. In the first one you're naming 3 groups, in the second B and C belong together, and can't be seperated. Or should you use or in that case?
