Hi Ana. I'd like to congratulate you for your channel. I'm a big fan of you and your videos are really helpful. I just think there was a little mistake when this video was edit. Just check the part when you explain about the "er vs re" differences. The examples are right, but the explanation is inverted. Again, thank you for your help and commitment.

English learners should be aware that although there are technically still differences between American English and British English, the spread of the internet has meant that the two dialects are slowly merging back into one another. British people will usually recognise words that belong to American English, and the same is true the other way round, mostly. In fact these days they probably won't even notice that you used a word from a different dialect, nor will they notice spelling errors. There are still some exceptions, of course; 'aluminium/aluminum' is quite noticeable because there's an extra syllable in the British version.

Hi Anna. I have an extrange mixture of British, Australian and American English pronunciation and writing but honestly I do not care, because I am not able to recognize where each word come from, for instance I can write realize or realise and I am not able to recognize a BAR, a PUB, CANTINA or A TAVERN, all of them are the same, for me, but strictly speaking, all of them are different...😒 Saludos desde México...👍🏼

No such thing as American English. There is only English English, every thing else is either regional/national dialect of English or a mistake. So called American English is for people(Americans) who find English English to complex, they like simple. As one wag once opined, "English English is what Americans speak when they eventually grow up," could be a long wait.
@EnglishFluencyJourney4 жыл бұрын
daubreyjaneweirdsley why did you write this comment? In the title it says “the difference in spelling”, in the video I said that there’s also a difference in pronunciation and some grammar points. And at the I added that “you cannot say that there’s more proper English it’s still English” There’s no need to be rude towards Americans! Nobody said anything bad about British English. Being mindful and respectful will serve you well. Take care!
@daubreyjaneweirdsley4 жыл бұрын
Your infantile American sensitivity is laughable when your whole society is based on cultural appropriation and hegemony, your arrogance precedes you No, what I question is your assumption that so called American English is equivalent to English English or at the very least can be called 'American English,' it's not, it's a dialect. For example in the former French colony of St Lucia in the Caribbean they speak Creole French (Kwéyòl) [kwejɔl], known locally as Patois, it's French-based Creole widely spoken in Saint Lucia. It is the vernacular language of the country. In other words it's Patois French not St Lucian French, exempli gratia American English. In Scotland/ Ireland/Wales they speak a dialect of English a particular form of a language which is peculiar to a specific region or social group, but they don't call it Irish/Scottish/Welsh English, they just call it English. I'm of English/French descent born and educated in England. I've worked as a professional artist/designer for long periods in the US for over thirty years; the staggering ignorance I've encountered concerning the language Americans speak is breathtaking. I've lost count the amount of times I've been asked by Americans what language do I speak, what country I'm from - I speak with a received pronunciation English accent. By the way as well as post graduate degrees in Fine Art and design/arts policy and management, I also have a degree in English/French literature and linguistics. Kind regard.
@EnglishFluencyJourney4 жыл бұрын
daubreyjaneweirdsley ok, after that first line I’m not even going to read the rest because the fact that now you’re assaulting me (even though I’m not an American) and discriminating people by language tells me a lot about you. Wish all the best and to be more open minded.

Hi beautiful teacher Hanna!!! I learnt English at the British Institute in Costa Rica because, in 1990, it was the better place for learning English. They had a staff of native speakers (British) and the discipline was quite high. When I switch to American English, my brain circuits went off. I had to retrain my brain. The lesson was quite good for me to go over many words. The same happens with my Spanish and the Spanish of my grandmother who was from Gilbraltar. ¨La casa de Papel¨and many Spanish movies, it got to watch them with subtitles because they have different words or their slang in unknown to Latinos like me. You always sharing good stuff, and miss your weekly videos.

I love your videos, but completely against you promoting American accent as the end all be all of learning English. One needs to speak English like themselves and not like you or an American. A person might seem more impressive and interesting with their own accent given they pronounce words clearly. If you could start pressing on this new mindset and ideology, will be really grateful.
@EnglishFluencyJourney4 жыл бұрын
I've never said that people should speak like me or learn an American accent. Where did you get this information? This is my personal choice and I always say this. So, you're saying that if I speak with an American accent and like it I'm promoting it and it's bad, but anyone else who speaks with a British accent is doing a great job? I've never said anything bad about other accents. Don't even know what to think of this.

@valeriedavidson27854 жыл бұрын
The correct English language obviously comes from England where it originated. The same with Spanish, the way they speak in South America is not correct Spanish. You have to go to the mother country to get the correct version.
