I don't find it respectful for people who knew what's happening behind the curtain to call it "still being this funny" and "it runs through his veins". The guy was battling dark thoughts. Imagine how'd he feels. "Hey man, sorry to hear about what you went through during this event. But wow. You're still funny despite all of that! Awesome!" Commedians are prone to depressions. Well, some types of commedians. Those are basically philosophists who are trying to change people's opinions and statement about things they find intolerable through humor. The laughs and the jokes are being used to mask pain.

In his standup special, James talked about this and what was going on in his life around the time this was filmed, and he talked about how it went viral. I hope he understands that a big reason it went viral is because a lot of us found this relatable -- I think it's fair to say "Started baking, had a breakdown, bon appetit" has become a meme at this point. I'd say this is good tv because he handled everything with a lot of wit and spontaneity for someone with no experience who's descended into such a state of Delirium due to lack of rest and preparation to the point of embarrassment. Well done!!👏👏

It reminds me of a family story. My grandmother was making some kind of biscuit, and my grandfather came in from farm work and helped himself to one. "What do you think," said Gran. "Very nice," said Pa. "A bit chewy though." "Oh good," said Gran, "imagine how nice theyll be when theyre COOKED."

I’ve watched pretty much every series of task master now so I’m looking for something new :) I loved the show “the wrong mans” from a few years ago with James Cordon and it got me into British humor (it was seriously incredible) and now Task Master got me into British Chat shows so I will 100% keep this list and start watching :) Thanks again!!!

"He did a whole bit about this on his latest standup, about how after day one of the competition he felt he'd done so badly he became depressed in his hotel room, and then his girlfriend broke up with him. Ended up being on the phone to The Samaritans for hours just to be able to finish the recording the following day. Still think this is a funny clip, but I watch it much differently now." - u/AlmostAndrew

James has a hilarious stand up bit on this experience. Apparently, he was horribly jet lagged and hadn’t slept for 36 hours. He mentioned this fact on camera multiple times, but they edited it out, making him look like a chaotic mess. Still, I imagine that he earned some new fans … since his comments that did make it are comedic gold. It’s on KZbin, so I definitely recommend giving it a watch!

Lots of people have mentioned his version of this in his show but the 1 bit I really remember, that I think says a lot for mental state at the time, is that he actually couldn't remember saying the famous "started making it, had a breakdown, bon appetit." He saw gifs of it appear and go viral later and got confused and had no memory.

Joe S I think you’re thinking too much into it 🤣 RuPauls Drag Race UK finally aired in the USA and I didn’t understand everything because you guys use all sorts of different words than we do and the snatch game is when the queens impersonate celebrities. They did this on the UK show also. I knew some of them but they didn’t say “oh we aren’t going to air this in the USA or other countries because they might not understand the celebrities impersonated or their use of slang.” That would just be ridiculous. Like Greenquartz said, if we are confused or need more info on someone or why they chose a certain bake, there’s a little thing called google. It’s not a problem with regular contestants so why does it matter if they are celebrities?
