I speak Russian and once when I was learning English I had a dream in English and woke up mid dream while the dream was still fresh. My mom was already up and when I saw her I started talking to her in English because I was still kinda immersed in the dream and a "good morning" just came out naturally out of me. It was very funny, my mom said "Что?!" and I immediately realized what I did and still don't understand why I didn't speak Russian.

Respect to that 80 year old man doing a half marathon. 4 years ago I started fell running. I was so amazed that so many people in their 60s, 70s and 80s were still running on the hills, fells and mountains. The ones in their 60s and 70s are so much better than me. When I asked them how it's possible they were jokingly saying that they had more years to practice.

John Fothergill thanks for your comments. Some of the people are very friendly and they just really want somebody to talk to. Often it’s hard to get away, once the conversation has started.

@wowp9381
@wowp9381 3 жыл бұрын
Но мои англоговорящие друзья скажут мне, что для англоговорящего это звучит очень грубо, и следует сказать, вроде "Excuse me, could you open the window, please?"

I didn’t really study it. I did apply to study it at a Russian university, but I never went to class. I’ve lived in Russia for 16 years so I just picked it up. My grammar and accent is awful but after living for so long in another country, I never have apprehension speaking. I forget that I’m foreign. For the first few years in Russia, I just spoke English and life was difficult, partly because times were different. In my city there were no shopping centres or even supermarkets. I was as forced to speak it. I’d say after about 8 years in Russia I felt competent, that’s just coz I didn’t study it. Though I know many people who studied it and speak correctly, but when they speak normal Russian on the street, nobody understands them.

@@SamsRussianAdventures Yeah. For 7 years 😅 Can't say our teacher in primary school was any good (she was absent at least twice a month). It was a rural school, so nothing really stuck with me as the quality of education in such schools is very poor. Those 4 years thought me how to read, numbers and some random words. No one really spoke Russian around me when I was growing up so that didn't help either. Highschool (10th-12th grade), however, was way better and did help me add a bit to my Russian vocabulary and grammar.

1. каша is not exotic. 2. it's better to use вы with strangers than ты. It's kinda weird that you would use вы (formal "you") with Nikolas and Denis as they were children (people it is culturally acceptable for you to use ты with). But you used the informal version, ты, with most of the adults.
