The best video I've seen about past tenses. But I don't really get why it is "she traveled for 6 month" and not "she was traveling for 6 month"
@englishspeaking360
@englishspeaking360 27 күн бұрын
Hello! The difference between "She traveled for 6 months" and "She was traveling for 6 months" lies in the aspect and nuance of the action: 1. **She traveled for 6 months**: - This sentence uses the simple past tense. - It implies that the action of traveling was completed in the past. - Example: "She traveled for 6 months last year." 2. **She was traveling for 6 months**: - This sentence uses the past continuous tense. - It emphasizes the ongoing nature of the traveling during that period. - It can imply that something else might have happened during this time or that the traveling was a significant part of a larger context. - Example: "She was traveling for 6 months when she decided to write a book about her experiences." In summary, "She traveled for 6 months" focuses on the completion of the action, while "She was traveling for 6 months" highlights the duration and ongoing nature of the action.

In simple past the suffix cannot only be -ed but in many cases just -d. Many verbs ending with -e get only -d. For example: move - moved.

It's almost correct, but it could be improved for clarity. You might say: "I reviewed English while watching your teaching videos." This phrasing sounds more natural in English.

@englishspeaking360
@englishspeaking360 2 ай бұрын
Hmmm... that's a tough question. The usage of "later" versus "after," and "before" versus "ago," often depends on context and preference, but here's a general guideline: 1. **Later vs. After:** - "3 weeks later" implies an event or action that occurs three weeks after a specified point in time. It's commonly used when describing a future event relative to the current time or another reference point. - "3 weeks after" is also correct and means the same thing. It indicates a point in time that is three weeks after another specified point. Both phrases are generally interchangeable in many contexts. "Later" might sound slightly more natural in some situations, especially when talking about future events. 2. **Before vs. Ago:** - "2 weeks before" refers to a point in time that is two weeks earlier than another specified point. It's often used to describe events or actions that occurred prior to a certain time. - "2 weeks ago" is also correct and means the same thing. It refers to an event or action that occurred two weeks prior to the current time or another reference point. Similarly to "later" and "after," these terms can often be used interchangeably. "Before" is typically preferred when emphasizing the chronological sequence leading up to an event, whereas "ago" is used when describing the time elapsed since an event happened. In everyday speech and writing, both sets of terms are widely understood and accepted. The choice between "later" and "after," or "before" and "ago," can depend on personal style or the flow of the sentence.

In fact, it ain't complicated I mean, it's not complicated 'cause it sounds coherent. - "I noticed he had gained weight because he had been eating a lot of junk food". # the fact of eating happened before the fact of gaining weight. # But we could also say: - "I noticed he GAINED weight because he had been eating a lot of junk food". Or. - "I noticed he gained weight because he had eaten a lot of junk food".

Hi, I don't know we have to use past progressive and past tense to mean politeness. I always say is it possible for you to give me a hand? Next time I will say I was thinking if you could give me a hand? Thank you so many much.

Hi! Instead of "I was thinking if you could..." use "I was wondering if you could..." It sounds very polite and many people use it.
