Hi Katharine, ma belle, my rose of England 🌹😊 A wonderful lesson as always Kat; I especially enjoyed the reference to the Monty Pythons' "Life of Brian" The Panglossian side of the hero given to extreme optimism, in the face of unrelieved hardship and adversity and singing 'Always look on the bright side of life' as he's being crucified brings on a hilarious effect. A cultissim scene! I love the Montys, they are really emblematic of British humour, that one that is imbued with derision and absurdity (probably my personal fave kind of humour); with the added bonus here of an irreverent, iconoclastic edge that is not to my displeasure! Their humour thrived. My fave French humourists (I'll speak of what I know best) be they Raymond Devos, Pierre Desproges, Coluche, Daniel Prevost or even and more specially groups such as 'Les Nuls' or 'les Inconnus' have all without exception claimed at a moment or another an influence or heritage from the Monty Pythons ! I've realised that you haven't yet dealt with the subject of British humour, even though you mentioned it last time; I think it would be a very good idea, it's a must and I hope you'll concoct something about it for us. :-) Allow me to attach here the text of 'Always look on the bright side of Life' which may be of interest to readers.
