Thanks to my parents moving several times when I was five, I never finished kindergarten. Since I had eight brothers and sisters and I was also the oldest boy, I had little supervision growing up. As the elementary school I attended had over fifteen hundred students, the class size was normally around sixty-five students. Due to the large class size, I had many friends. However, as a result of my not taking school seriously until my junior year in high school, my grammar skills have always been lacking. Out of desperation to make something of myself, I voluntarily entered the USAF in 1969. Thanks to my aptitudes in science and math, I became quite good at meteorology and ended up managing weather stations around the world. Now that I have a better understanding of how to use ‘because’, I will write with more confidence. Thank you.

Extremely useful, thank you! I'm Czech and I remember our Czech language teacher at elementary school told us one day that it's not just wrong but plain stupid to say "thanks to an illness, thanks to an accident etc." because you're definitely not thankful for that. That was Czech language, mind you. Also, it was 30+ years ago but I still remember it for some reason :D I'd guess that even if English is a different language, it still makes no logical sense to use "thanks to" in a negative sense, even though people do use it all the time - Czech AND English. So I'll probably stay away from it because ever since that day a bell rings in my head telling me "there isn't much to be thankful about, is there?" ;)

Sympathize with you. I also fell into the group who became well educated in spite of the school system, not because of it.

Thank you specially for teaching "Due to the fact that". I learned it very well. Due to the fact that you repeated it so much. I believe repeating a phrase via various examples and explanations can fix a phrase in the learners minds very better and this is I found in teaching that phrase. God bless you

When I started grammer school my family was fortunate enough to move to a new house that was only two blocks away from the school. During the summer days, we spent most afternoons there playing footbal, baseball, and other sports wit the ofther children on the street.
