Great lesson! I had verbals (gerunds, infinitives, participles) in 10th grade grammar. I still remember everything I was taught about them. We never covered the certain verbs that can only use a gerund or an infinitive, however (7:51 thru 11:32). This lesson applies to both British and American English.

Hi Lucy. Greetings from Hong Kong! We studied gerund and to-infinitive in college. Even the difference of the words that can followed by both a gerund and a to-infinitive. Like “She stopped walking when she saw Mike." or "On the long way to London, she stopped to take a rest." Would you have another video to teach us more examples about the different meanings for some verbs when they followed by gerund and to-infinitive?

Thank you, Lucy. This video, like numerous of other I saw already, is reliable and very accurate. However, the subject of topic for anglophiles is quite shaky and foggy. I've attacked this irritating "binomial" few times and usually I've still hesitated. According to my knowledge, this puzzle requires time for digesting. It means to read and listen, paying attention for "G". and "to I". "neighborhood". Attacking isn't the best way to win this battle. I wish both of you Happy New Year.

Hello Lucy, and hello to anyone who may read my comment. First of all, thank you so much for the very useful content of your channel, I always find It very helpful and informative. I would like to ask you a question: in minute 6:38 you start making examples of to-infinitives acting as subjects. In those particular sentences we have an imperative to give instructions; I was wondering if It was really correct to state that the infinite of purpose "to Cook" Is the subject (the 'performer') of the sentences, in which the action Is "to place". Wouldn't the sentence have the same meaning if there was "to Cook properly, YOU Place the fish skin side down"? So that the only subject Will be 'you', since "to Cook properly" Is an infinitive of purpose? I Just don't think that 'to Cook properly ' has the role of a subject, but has instead the function of expressing the purpose of the action performed by another subject (a fictional 'you' in this specific Imperative sentences). I don't know if that was clear, but I thank you, Lucy, and anyone who can clarify this doubt of mine. Thank you again, and bye for now!
