Most Americans cannot explain to you the difference between Present Perfect/Past Simple tense because most of the Americans can even tell you the different tenses. Most Americans don't even know the difference between their/they're or your/you're. But, most of Americans don't care how bad your grammar is as long as you sound just like them. So, while it is awesome to understand the difference, to those who wants to learn English, just find a white person and practice! (grammar error here somewhere, lol) Because even if you memorized the rules perfectly, you won't have time to process this while trying to carry on a conversation. But as you speak more and more, your brain will recognize patterns which is how we speak Chinese or Cantonese where we account for all the unusual rules without pausing. Anyways, awesome video!
感謝你既video ,內容生動,容易明白。 我有個問題,希望有時間能夠解答。當我和小孩子看圖書時,有以下不明白 A: It’s time for the fight . B: But I am so hungry .Let’s wait till we’ve had lunch . 請問B “ we ‘ve had “ 是用上present prefect 嗎? 如是,請問又為何可用上? 似乎都不是你所述的三種情況。 謝謝。

Dear Teacher Mag, Just a humble sharing with you, no sound any offend. correction: I have already eaten. Mag has already taken her Ferrari for a pin. (noun/pronoun) + (verb to have) + (adverb of indefinite time) + (past participle of verb) as for present prefect tense "easy remembering keywords": "SINCE" - the start of a period of time. "FOR" - to the entire point of time. Thanks for your time and hope this helps; may GOD bless you and have an awesome day!

Where and how to use "being"?
@EnglishwithMaggie2 жыл бұрын
Queenie is being a fantastic student by asking this question. 'being' describes an action or a state that happened in the past and is still the same in the present. Thank you for the question, I will put that on my ideas list of videos to do.

Hi Maggie, 如果e.g. Lunch time 遇到同事, 想問佢食咗飯未, 是否用Present Perfect? Thanks!
Hi Maggie, 想請問如果我想講我尋晚唔見左鎖匙到宜家都未搵返,我又想講明係尋晚唔見,i have lost my key, last night. 但係last night this morning 呢D提示字又只可以用於past simple. 咁應該點做?謝謝

Your channel is the best I can find on KZbin for kids here in Hong Kong! May I ask a question which is not probably for junior students. Is it true that most American don't really use present perfect tense, they use simple past for virtually all situations? Once again, thank you for your channel!

Thanks! Americans use the present perfect tense too 😅

@Alex Chan / Let’s rephrase it and make the question a bit clear. When you talk to other people in your native (Cantonese) language, does it not come out naturally? Or do you have to think twice before you are going to say anything. That is truly the same when we spoke with others, tenses are coming out naturally.

Tenses are absent from the Chinese language but are integral in Indo-European languages. In Chinese, the time-line of events and activities are indirectly conveyed by additional supportive constructs to qualify the time periods being in the past, in the future or in the present time. Chinese verbs exist in a single form equivalent to the infinitives in European languages thus the differences are traditionally perceived as challenges for native Chinese speakers. Tenses benefit from more precise & concise expressions, shorter sentences. Some Indo-European languages go one step further in having forms of verbs to convey genders of the subjects taking the actions leading to even more concise sentences omitting the pronouns all together. There is a trade-offs in precision, conciseness versus free-form expressions. The latter may be easier to learn however native Chinese speakers do find the transition to mastering Indo-European languages hard in this respect. Unlearning the freer expression of time-line using supportive constructs such as “just now”, “already”, “yesterday”, “about to”, “preparing”, “tomorrow” … to use more formal tenses to convey the same is hard because one has to unlearn and learn at the same time.
