Wow... I'm really impressed by your polite English speaking, and beautiful accent. As a person using English as a second language, your videos are really helpful for learning English. Cuz..you are talking very articulately and slowly compared to other English teachers. Thank you very much!

Here in Brazil, we also have a word like prickly and this one is "espinhenta" a prickly person is a "pessoa espinhenta", full of sorrow and not a good person to be with. And touchy, if it's exactly as I can wonder while I watch your explaining is what we brazillians use to call "uma pessoa muito dódoi", what means a person who would be easily offended due to very little things. I'm loving your british accent because I'm training listening of british english. Thank you very much Gill.

But because of watching your videos it isn't a torment at all, it is really fun even if I will merely remeber a fewest of this vocabulary. Thanks a lot!

Thank you, Gill! It is good to see the nuances known only by the native speakers. I have never thought that being upset is a state close to crying. I would have said it was a state close to shouting at others. :-) And I thought touchy is when someone likes to touch others when (s)he talks.
@engvidGill8 жыл бұрын
Hello hapgull -- you're right, 'upset' can also mean close to anger, as well as close to crying -- it depends on the context. Also, 'touchy' does mean 'prickly' as I say in the video, but there is a term 'touchy-feely' which is used for someone who likes to get close to people, hug them, etc :-)

hi Gill, i really enjoy your lessons, are well explained and very enjoyable. I was thinking that might be a good idea to add to this lesson the feelings of sadness, like sorrow, dispair, desolate, grief, etc... and add the word moody into the anger section :-) for long time i thought moody was something to do with the typical sadness of the romanticism era, something similar like melancholy, and recently i found out the real menaing of moody has more to do with anger than with sadness :-D Thank you so much for sharing with us your knowledge of your beautiful language, greetings from Gran Canaria Island
