Great vid. At what point in the editing process do you recommend running the Enhanced Details? Because of the massive jump in file size, I imagine I'll do all of my edits on the raw file, and then make enhanced details my last step before exporting to print or share, then I could delete the large file and retain the smaller raw with edits, where I could always re-create the enhanced whenever I want. Any downside to this workflow, or would I get more bang by running enhanced details first, then do all my processing on that file? Side question I just thought of... typically Lightroom defaults to setting all my fuji raw files at 40 sharpness. Is there even a purpose to sharpness anymore if I'm going with Enhanced Details? Does it matter if I "sharpen" the image a little before running enhanced details, or should I set it to 0 sharpness before running enhanced details? I appreciate the update and am quite excited to have this option, but it's certainly still a cumbersome step that adds some confusion...

Personally, I think you should run enhance details before carrying out any edits, then do the editing on the DNG file. That's not an expert opinion however just a hunch

@@JasonRowPhotography Yes, any edits will have different consequences when applied to the normal rendering or the enhanced detail rendering. Thus your hunch is correct.

It is better than before, but two things to have in mind: 1: Capture One is still much, much better at rendering those small details, and 2: this workflow is not something that I would call perfect.

I have tried this function without even realizing what it does and I was amazed right away, IMO the difference is really big if you only zoom at 1:1 (in fact I can even tell the difference at 1:2, because color depth looks better as well). I have also compared LR's "enhance details" to Capture One results (because people told me, capture one is the best for fuji cameras), but fuji RAWs looks clearly worse compared to Lightroom + Enhance details. Capture one is using stronger sharpening filter at default settings, so that's probably why some people think picture is sharper, but artifacts (ringing, noise) are also stronger. LR+Enhance Details improve edge contrast and fine details even without any sharpening applied and the end picture looks not only sharper but cleaner (less color noise). But sharpness in not the only issue I have with capture one. Colors and dynamic range settings arent matched correctly with my X-T30 camera film simulation modes (unlike lightroom and fuji X-Raw studio), so it's much easier for me to get desided colors in lightroom and fuji X-Raw studio.

I am still experimenting with the best solution, seems a little easier to use the likes of Iridient to produce enhanced dng's which you can then import into lightroom, or am I missing something here?

I find it odd that the enhance feature can not be tweaked by use of a slider but is just a single overall adjustment.

I think the idea of sliders is that they are non destructive and can be dialled back. This is an actual conversion to another RAW format along with a lot of computer processing to do it. I suspect if you had a slider control for it, it could take minutes for each adjustment to occur

Jim, it is not applied by default in camera raw. It can only be done in lightroom or when you first import the file in photoshop (not the camera raw filter).
