Glad you enjoyed! How was Jimmy as a teacher? Do you have any stories to share?

So amazing that Jimmy could play such things at the speed of thought. I conducted an extensive interview with Jimmy in my Mel Bay book 'Conversations With Great Jazz and Studio Guitarists." He asked me to title the interview "Captain C Chord." :-) He had such a marvelous sense of humor. Thank you for posting this excellent, but nevertheless, comprehensive overview of Jimmy's concepts. They say the geniuses were Django, Charlie and Wes but I've always thought that Jimmy should be included in that pantheon.

Man, I'm so impressed at your technique! I just discovered Jimmy Wyble (and his 2-note playing) about 2 weeks ago, and I am shocked less players (specifically Jazz guitarists) don't talk about him more! I learned the 1st etude, but your tempo and performance of it really demonstrate your strong technique! Also, I feel guitarists will always harmonically be in the shadow of pianists for their harmonic ability (and 2-hand separation), so techniques like this can really help to have a more involved guitar comping sound whether solo or in bigger contexts. Excellent video, strong explanation, and clearly delivered. Thank you!!

Thanks for the kind words Oliver! I completely agree that Jimmy Wyble's techniques can definitely take the guitar to a new level in terms of harmony. I really want to do my part in making sure more people are aware of his playing and his techniques!

Nice job. I'm a long time guitar player and now tackling solo guitar. I started playing piano as well because I love the polyphony and independence that piano players have. Long way to go but it's a whole new world. This is a very useful piece in that evolution; thanks.

Cool vid, Mike. Great concepts. Jimmy's 'Two Lines from Nowhere' is a treasure trove of similar ideas. It blows my mind every time l hear it. I had to laff when you said you use that idea 'probably too much.' Yeah, I have the same problem with a Dom7#9 lick l stole from Jimmy. Amazing stuff.

Jimmy is the gift that keeps on giving! On the note of that "probably too much comment," I recently recorded a solo guitar album that I'll be releasing in the coming months, and I am willing to bet that line shows up on every single song haha!

Great video. Perhaps it's better to think of the "b5" merely as a chromatic appoggiatura and the "6" merely as a passing tone up to the seventh of each chord? I feel jazz analysis goes a little wayward when every note is analysed like an extension.

JIMMY WYBLE, was raised in port arthur texas, my music teacher said jimmy had two lessons with him. i said why, mr cantu ( my teacher ) said that jimmy was so far advance at playing the guitar at that time, that the teacher was astounded and could not give him another lesson. jimmy knew it all even at an early age.= amazing. i believe jimmy later played guitar ( JAZZ LICKS ) with BOB WILL AND THE TEXAS PLAYBOYS. ELDON SHAMBLIN , I THINK PLAYED RHYTHM GUITAR IN THAT BAND. TWO MASTERS OF GUITAR PLAYING IN THE SAME BAND. that is if i got my facts straight ?
@mbacarellaguitar Жыл бұрын
Jimmy is one of my favorite guitarists of all time! I think your facts are correct. I'm not 100% sure if Eldon Shamblin and Jimmy both played with Bob Wills at the same time, but they were definitely both veterans of that band. I know a few other guitar players played second guitar to Jimmy while he was with them as well!

I figured since it has two voices it’s at least double jazz.

I saw this book years ago in a music store but I don’t remember it having the chord symbols in the music, am i wrong and has that changed?? If it doesn’t have the chords in a newer book, how do you know what you are playing? Any responses would be highly appreciated, thanks!
