With the steady increase in development along Canada’s lakes and rivers, critical fish habitat is being compromised and degraded. Watersheds Canada, in partnership with local organizations, works to protect, enhance, and restore many types of freshwater fish habitats including walleye and trout spawning beds, shorelines along cold-water creeks, and underwater cover by adding woody debris.

Melissa Dakers of Watersheds Canada has been central in developing, piloting, and delivering these fish habitat restoration projects for over five years. In this webinar, she will outline step-by-step protocols that community groups, youth, property owners, and concerned individuals can use to assess the quality of their local fish habitat, and if needed, select a suitable project to ensure their local populations of fish, turtles, invertebrates, and other freshwater species stay healthy for years to come.
About Forests Ontario
Forests Ontario is dedicated to making Ontario’s forests greener. Our ambitious tree planting initiatives, extensive education programs and decades of community outreach have resulted in millions of trees being planted each year. Through our extensive partnerships and our diverse planting programs, we are working each day to increase forest cover, restore forests impacted by natural occurrences and improve forest conditions in Ontario and across Canada. forestsontario...
About Envirothon
The Ontario Envirothon isn’t just an educational program-it’s a team-based competition for high school students who love the outdoors. Think of it as an incubator for the environmental leaders of tomorrow, designed to prepare students for future green careers. Since 1994, thousands of students, teachers and volunteers have participated in our annual Envirothon competitions, putting knowledge they’ve learned in the field to the test. Interactive workshops give students hands-on experience with forests, soils, wildlife, and aquatic ecosystems, while team-based activities are designed to develop critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, leadership and communication skills.
