While the 233833 is no longer made, the replacement kit is p/n 228675 available for the low-low price of 600 bucks, which allthough not the same part and does require some rebuilding, its better than tossing the generator. And I wouldnt be too concerned about the 80's motherboard, they are fairly easy to troubleshoot if youre good with electronics, and there is tons of places that rebuild em.

Thanks for the comment I just read about that new p/n. Not cheap but if it gets that generator back up and running it will probably be worth it. Thanks!

Hi, I currently have a 32 ft houseboat that I am renovating, 1970 vintage same style as yours. You have a great video series. I actually blame you (kidding) for my project! :) What the heck am I doing! :) Anyway, have you thought of installing 2/3 Jet ski's that dock into your house boat? when you anchor up just disconnect and you have 2/3 ski's to play on. You could also extend the rear of your boat to give you more sitting/standing play area and a garage for the ski's. It's great spending other peoples money! :) your welcome! :) Anyway, I think it would be a cool addition to your project.

Definitely was thinking of how to tow or store at least one jetski. That was a problem before when I would head out on the houseboat and be anchored up waiting for friends to show up in smaller boats. I was basically stuck out there with no quick way to get around. That’s awesome to hear about the 32 foot boat. There’s a good few people out there restoring some of these older boats so we are in good company.

I have a Westerbeke 7.5kw genset that I was going to put in my boat, but have decided not to. You’re welcome to it- I live in North Texas, be happy to donate it to the project! I sent you a DM on IG as well!

Man that’s a generous offer! Not sure if we can accept something that awesome, but either way I’ll find you on IG. It likes to automatically hide all kinds of spam messages so I haven’t seen it yet.

Would an ONAN generator (dual fuel) or other RV type work for your needs? Loving your restoration journey!
@Motiv8Labs Жыл бұрын
We were looking into that a while back. Looks like most of the RV generators are air cooled so that might be a challenge to figure out, but there are a lot more of those types out there versus the marine generators. Might be an option!

Whats the voltage coming off the windings? What is the I/O of the regulator supposed to be? I am sure there is something that can be cross compatible. Kohler didn't make that part. Some other manufacturer did. Look-Up "Universal Voltage Regulator VR648 ".
@Motiv8Labs Жыл бұрын
Looks like the regulator takes in the 120v AC from the windings and converts it into some sort of DC voltage that it supplies to the slip rings and into the rotor. Some other comments led me to a replacement that is supposed to work. Looks like it’s $650 online. Not cheap for what’s probably inside it.

@@Motiv8Labs in TELCO we do a lot of AC to DC conversion, I am sure there is something else out there you could use besides the kohler replacement.

hey. i'm a new subscriber. just watched the golf cart videos but it was difficult. you should put those in a playlist. also you can make "next video" auto loads go somewhere relevant. not trying to tell you your business. just a fan giving you feedback. love your content.

I’d never thought about that for new people watching the videos how hard it might be to follow some of the builds like that. Looks like I need to put a “Part 1” “Part 2” etc. in the title and get them in a playlist. Thanks for the note still trying to figure youtube out.

How about keeping the old Kohler engine & just replace the generator with an old but "newer" generator
@Motiv8Labs Жыл бұрын
That’s definitely worth looking into!

@@Motiv8Labs I get it. I'm currently boatless, and it's driving me crazy. We used to own a '75 48' Nautiline and I loved it. My wife and I are following you closely. Looking forward to the next installment.
