With power mods the truck could definitely benefit from longer gearing. Yeah it’ll pull some torque back out of it but with tuning and modifications you’ll net more torque in the end. With some nice long gearing you’ll be able to cruise at 70 at lower rpm which will keep the engine and transmission super happy, as well as give way better fuel econ

I would suggest buying a spare cam and crank position sensor. IPR valve with pigtail and possibly an ICP sensor w pigtail. Change the connector before you change the sensor though. Those are all fairly common failure points the triple 4 and most HPOP systems. The 110Vdv is the from the “IDM (injector driver module) /FICM (fuel injector control module)” to fire the injectors. Other failure points are the valve cover gaskets which have integrated pass thru connectors for the Injectors and glow plugs. If you can get BG EPR or seafoam and run in the oil per their instructions before an oil change, will definitely help the injectors, EPR has helped bring life back into some 6.0s I’ve dealt with.

I had a 97 F series Super duty,(F450) with the 7.3 Powerstroke and from the factory was rated at 225HP with redline @3600 RPM Orange lined at3400 and it had the Ford E4OD trans with 5:37 traction lock rear, at 3,000RPM it was doing 70 MPH. after the warranty was up it got the 4" Stainless steel exhaust and a tuner, and pyrometer, and since I was towing and hauling only went for the first of 3 levels, It had a 11 ft flatbed 10 ft camper and towed a 3 horse trailer, usually grossed out at about 19,000 CGVW. It would pull that load over I90 Wash state, Snoqualamie pass, 3,000 ft in 3rd gear 3400 RPM at 56 MPH it was about a 6 mile hard pull and the pyro would hit about 1300 F at the summit, run that truck for 15 years, did replace the transmission at 49,000 and the reman came with a huge trans cooler, which tells me it was under sized at Ford, Engine never had a problem and only sold it because in old age we got out of horses and camping. sweetest running engine I ever had.

I couldn’t tell where you installed that EGT gauge but depending on if it’s pre or post turbo, the readout can vary 200 degrees. And 200 degrees hotter than 1250 can mean burning a hole in a piston. Sorry if someone already posted this same comment.

Your obsession with going 70+ in a big truck thats designed for short haul day use is of concern; obviously that truck was made for farm type use. No one pulling a trailer (RVers, Big trucks, etc) needs to be driving 70+. Just give yourself more time and be safe or get an appropriate engineered/designed/built truck.

The speed limitation is called a governor. It's supposed to operate on vacuum and speed. So under little load, it controls the top speed to 65 MPH. Under load, it's supposed to let more throttle open to help keep the speed up. I thinks that this limiter can be removed.

I took on the project of restoring a 1969 Tom Sawyer. I’m at this exact step of reflooring. Was not looking forward to making stringers and doing fiberglass work because I have never done it before. This gives me hope that it’s not that complicated if you’re prepped and prepared. Do you have a materials list for this project?

I have a fleet of international trucks. We wouldn’t buy those 444s , you can get DT 466 in those 4300s, why pull you bother with an 444.As you found out that’s just n around town local delivery truck, not meant for interstate travel especially towing. If it had a 466/ 7 speed spicer it would be an absolute pleasure to drive,so much more power and torque. It’s a way better cold starting engine, much easier to work on and so much heavier duty. It’s a true MD engine .You bought the wrong truck. It’s never going to be what you want without swapping the transmission and differential gears . Too bad you didn’t know a bit more when you were buying you’d skipped right over that truck, and in the end spent a little more upfront to be happier with the end product. Hope it all works out for you. You have to watch those egts when towing. Thats when you can hurt the engine .Great video, thanks for posting it.

Honest opinion, that TC is your first fix. It will address "most" of your concerns. Bouncing off 3k isn't helping EGT's, fuel mileage, or being kind to the trans. A flush and fill will help as an intermediate band-aid too. You gotta remember, all that time idling, that ATF was cycling and getting warm. A suggestion though, if you're going to have it down to change a TC, might think about a 5 speed from an F350. If I remember right, they used the same S5-42. You could get a non-pto version and get rid of half the stuff clogging up under the truck, or keep the PTO for a hydraulic pump. Hydraulics = all kinds of fun stuff like a tilt bed, jib crane, etc. Or onboard air.

Sorry to disappoint ya but the 7.3 PS was designed (under contract) for Ford and adapted for road trucks (DT466E) and later on adapted by Mercury as a marine power plant. The only (that I know of) diesel designed by IH for marine use was the Cursader 9.0L. With that being said IH did provide several gas engines for marine use. You my be thinking of the Cummins BT series, they put that thing in EVERYTHING prior to Dodge making their deal.

@@Motiv8Labs the trans issues can be something as simple as a low stall converter getting "freaked out" by the up rated power output compared to the fairly tame stock levels. a ten second acceleration boost is probably a bit spicy for a stock transmission, and I'd be using that only when you need to merge quickly. other wise keep it as a reserve and drive it a bit more conservatively. or, get a tranny shop to make sure the bands and steels aren't overly cooked from too much high load and crawling on uneven ground in near stall conditions.
