Impressive to have an actual valved engine rather than a wobbler at that price point. Good workmanship and design. Cap screws rather than Phillips head is a nice touch, both for appearance and assembly.

Great little kit! From the instructions pix I think the aluminum disk thing is meant as a snuffer, but certainly works as a burner mover.

Hi Alan. My thoughts exactly. They have a Hero version of the boiler and I expected you would recognise it. I remember your video and the similarity. This store has some amazing engines with upmarket specs and prices. I went for this model as it was one of the most affordable. Easy build, but it still caught me out ;) They appear to only have steam stuff these days. Cheers Rob

Get functions just like the ones I used to work on when I was a kid on the ranch.I had four wells that I had to keep running for the cattle and were used Fairbanks Morse John Deere McCormick deering and international harvester motors.

Very good guess Ian. It was in that region. It runs on very low pressure. I choked the flame after filming with a large diameter washer on the pot and had it ticking over for a long time at walking pace. I prefer them slow, but to power something it will need full herbs. Would make a great gift for anyone interested in things mechanical. Cheers Rob

i wouldnt be able to help myself... throw a longer mid section in the boiler. swap that silicone tube out for some brass tubing coiled around the burner... superheat it. run a chickenfeed burner. see how many hours it can run continuously before rebuilding...

What's the run time? Also, what lubrication do you need for a glass cylinder? I am buying the pre-built version of this engine and it has a glass cylinder instead of brass.

At a guess it would be about 5 minutes as is. By reducing the flame size it can eaily be extended to about 10 running at a slower speed. I use water soluble air tool oil for my steam engines, but none of them have a glass cylinder. I expect it would work OK regardless of the material, but ask the shop what lube they recommend.
