Hi man, this compact / portable percussion instrument is the Peruvian Cajón ( the "J" is pronounced as the "H" at the word "home"). Is very easy to play and its origin place is the town of Chincha where the african-peruvian colony is located (central peruvian coast). Around 90 years ago this instrument was created. Few years ago spanish musicians carried to Europe some Cajones and by this way the popularity of the Cajón starts up. :)
