You are very right about doing your homework before buying. We just bought a 2021 Jayco Eagle HT 24re and for the most part the issues are pretty standard except for the jack controller. If we had looked at all the reviews about the issues with the display pad in the outside cubby we may have thought twice about buying it.

My dealer warranty was useless. They are so busy now, you have to wait so long to get things fixed. I fixed my furnace myself via KZbin videos(sail switch). My fridge stopped working, so I called repair guy. He wanted to sell me a whole new motherboard. Got a second opinion. It ended up being one of the fuses behind the fridge. So always get a second opinion, if you think the price is to high to fix. Thanks for the video, a lot of great info!

One thing i would add is a very through PDI. Not only have them tell you how everything works - have them show you how to use it then you try it. Example lighting the water heater and using the gas or electric or both. We are very seasoned campers over 40 years with the wife and 20 years before that and still learn something new with every camper - yes when we started they were called campers.

Great advice, thanks for the video. I’m so thankful for people like you that share the good, bad and ugly to help protect the newbies. Fortunately for me I’m a researcher when it comes to new things that I need to educate myself about. I learned most of this info before buying our first RV and feel very fortunate. We had a good experience with our dealer and so far with their service department.

Really good tips! You saved us by letting us know that rv tires can be bad and need to be replaced. Definitely looking under sinks and checking for gaps in seams, where you can feel drafts help to find areas that need recaulking or plugging up. We found a vent hole missing the vent.

Thanks for your video. We did our research on class c RVs. We set our goals on the top 3 high quality Class C’s. Hand built one at a time. No dealers no price negotiating. Paid a very fair price. Placed our order and had the rig built by a family owned business in Southern California. No issues with build quality and have been enjoying the rig for six years now…trouble free. Solid as a rock on the Ford e450 chassis. Won’t drop the name of the manufacturer but they are well known among the Class C market. I agree. Many rigs trailers, Class A’s and Class C’s are riddled with issues. Set your goals and prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Excellent advice there Tom! We discovered all those ourselves, so experience may be the best teacher, but the test comes BEFORE the class even starts! The only thing I would add to your comprehensive list, is do a video recording of the walkthrough as provided by the dealer, or seller. That way you don't forget little things like how to turn on the furnace! Safe, and hoppy travels from The Boondocking Brewer™!

There are 11 million people with RVs at home. The issue is that there aren't enough RV parks (2/3 million ? Tops?). There are only about 45,000 RV techs. Nobody can't access reservations.

That is what we did, bought more truck than we needed. Our RV (That Burned to the ground😥) Was 18,000lbs and our truck was rated for 30,500lbs, (2018 Ram 3500 Laramie MAX TOW PACKAGE) And back to our RV burning down, we are full time and MAKE SURE TO CHECK YOUR INSURANCE POLICY, before you realize that your all of contents inside weren't covered...Check before something happens. We thought it was, but it was brought to our attention very quickly that our policy only covered some of our belongings inside.

Tom, people need to realize these big fifth wheels are heavy. And 3/4 and 1 ton trucks really don't have the capacity to stop them safely. The coach we are looking at weights 18,000lbs empty. Then you add water, fuel and personals it can easily be over 21,000lbs. A standard over the road semi 28' semi trailer comes in at 26-28,000lbs and look at what they pull that with. We have opted to go with a HDT due to the aspect of more saftey. We purchased a 2013 Volvo 780 tractor. Paid $24,000. When done with the deck for our Smart car $3,000. Then the heavy duty 5th wheel air ride hitch $4,000. So in all for our tow vehicle we will have a total of $34,000 into. I can't buy a 1 ton or 2 ton truck for what we bought the HDT for. I highly recommend that people really consider this for there tow rig. Our coach is going the be the Grand Design Momentum 398m-r. Safe travels Brian and Cindy "xtreambydesign with passion"

Thanks for your video, Appreciate your time and energy put forth as always! Just added the following to my RV buying Todo List Thanks to your advice: RV insurance - Are my contents covered as well as the dwelling? For Full-Time RV? New Tires Immediately - Dealership tires are only set up for the dry weight of the camper Shakedown Camp - Going out to see what might go wrong or needs fixed before we go farther Don't Rush and pay attention to fee/warranties Trust the dealer

Went to Camping World in Tampa last week. Picked an RV did the paperwork, gave a 5 thousand dollar payment before they ran credit. We ended up sitting there for 3 hours with no one talking to us. Finally found our original salesman told him and he was pissed. Waited two days to find out the bank wouldn't accept the wife's non taxed travel nurse money on her checks. Now waiting on our deposit back

I truly get the 'sell the house and go Rv'ing desire' but, I have a longer term question. As many do this now, what is the end game position? Selling the homestead and taking yourself out of the property asset market, into a depreciating asset and perhaps in many cases the need to still generate income, may well lead to an out game result that is financially very negative. If you're successful at say the KZbin subs payment deal them great or and on the road income stream, but thats a long and maybe lengthy game as you will know. So, are there any cautionary notes to comment on? I fear too many me jump and its a long ways down.

I had a coworker and he had a car with extended warranty from the manufacturer it was cheap and come with lots stander features, One day the transmission went out he took it to the dealership to get it fixed but it told him since he didn't do any regular recommend maintenance so it will not fix the transmission, he has not happy about it, the long extended warranty from the manufacturer was the deal Maker for him since than I stayed away from that car company it's too bad because dealer wants to save some money for the company, but it lost me as a customer forever and not just me I told my siblings about it it's too bad because lately their car seems to get better but because what happened to my coworker so I am staying away from it, 🙏

110% correct on the RV tires they are the absolute worst things in this world mine didn't even last a year and they were all weather cracked had to replace it what a mess bought the stupid insurance for $1,000 was dumb enough to finance it and I could put three sets of tires on that thing for that price oh by the way the tire insurance totally completely and absolutely worthless save your money. Stay away from these RV dealers that want to sell you everything under the Sun but the camper go to a small reputable dealer after you've done a lot of research on what you think you want

My favorite part is the comment about you sneaking into service. Every customer that sneeks into service.. some even drive on the lot.. and of course they lie and say I did not see the parking lot out front. Obviously you made mistakes buying the wrong RV. That is a byproduct of lying to your sales person and not giving them a chance to actually find out what your needs are. Customers for your personality also have huge egos and cannot be honest about a budget. The only job, and I repeat the only job of a sales professional any other business is to find out what are you going who you taking and what are you going to do when you get there. The hardest question is always the budget. Customers that subscribe to your philosophy will make several mistakes purchasing the wrong recreational vehicle. When's the last time you ordered the wrong cup of coffee at Starbucks. If you show up 15 minutes before they close you think you get a better deal ,

Personally, I wouldn't recommend buying any service agreement/after market warrantee. I know you say it helped you both out but I'm sure that is the exception- not the rule. As some have said, if you think you're going to need this kind of help- set up a repair fund and put aside money every month. You'll never have the hassles of claims and waiting for even partial satisfaction.

Good advice start out small first rent then buy used camper and truck for first several years untill you do the research and get a custom to how these things work and if it works for you. Then if you want to and are sure this will work for you and your family go for it. SO MUCH TO LEARN FIRST!!!!!! It is so easy to burn through a ton of money and be very disappointed.

# 1 Buy the design that you like because they’re all built like crap…. I mean built the same. # 2 Buyer beware. # 3 Warrantees are a joke and they are insurance policies designed to protect the insurance company. You will lose your arse nine times out of 10 # 4 Good luck and enjoy!!! But seriously, excellent advice when it comes to the size of your truck and for everything you guys do for safety!

Wouldn't by a RV built with a frame from Lippert. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHnOZqKKnd57gpo or any frame that is 1/8 thick material. 1/4 or 5/16 would be my preferred. Yes, a little extra weight, but better strength and torsion support. Easier to weld and fix if it does break. The foundation is the base from which all else depends.
