Great video. Very informative. I had a 10mm hole drilled in plasterboard which needed to be enlarged to 25mm. I took the wall plug from the 10mm hole, cut the end off and used that as a guide for the spade drill.

Good idea! I used a plastic drywall anchor on the spade tip and it worked great.

Hi, after watching this video and trying your plastic technique I found my impact driver had too much power and deflection to use it cleanly. However I found if I superimposed a plate or piece of wood with the desired size hole over the smaller hole I was trying to enlarge, the spade bit would follow that guide and bore the required hole size in the workpiece. Best to clamp 🗜 together when doing it. Thanks for your video.

Great idea, thanks for sharing. I think I have described that technique in this hole saw version, if anyone is interested kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYuwfmCthaiqr7s 👍😊

First off thank you for this video. I am currently building an electric guitar from scratch. I have an old 1960’s Japanese guitar neck but the 6 holes in the headstock that support the tuning machines for each string are too small for standard 6-in-line tuners and I need to enlarge them. After researching I found that a 3/8 bit like you used should extend the holes to the proper radius to fit standard sized tuners. I put wood dowels in each of the 6 holes (using wood glue which I noticed you didn’t do, because I’m hoping it will make the dowels sturdier for drilling). I’m nervous to mess up and snap the headstock. I have no convincing reason to believe this will happen but I would love to hear someone else’s opinion or advice? Thank you!

Thanks for your comment, good luck. I find that a 2 or 3mm pilot hole drilled with an ordinary wood bit helps to keep the spade drill on track.👍😊

@@AnnErasmus thank you. I clipped off the ends of the wood dowels in each 6 holes, sanded them flush on both sides, then proceeded drilling each new hole with the 3/8 spade bit and it worked perfectly. Now I have 6 new tuning machines installed in all 6 of the newly drilled holes. This is my first electric guitar build from scratch out of nothing but an old 1960’s Japanese neck from a thrift store electric guitar and a pile of cabinet wood in my dads garage. Plus a box of old guitar parts, in this case I’m shaping the body to be a telecaster guitar and have an old black telecaster pickguard with the neck pickup and an old 3 brass saddle telecaster bridge with a classic telecaster bridge pickup as well as a telecaster control plate with volume knob, tone knob and 3 way pickup selector switch. Hopefully I have a working purple telecaster here shortly.

@@jacobsamano9761 A lot of this is "Greek" to me but I would like to say well done and all the best for the outcome 😊👍
