You're thinking too hard about the Nidai. Here is what happened: they capture luffy and put the sword in a vault. Luffy and company take over. Now that they have the prisoners on their side they have to procure weapons. "Hey o-tama, ask elephant dude where all the weapons are". Elephant dude leads them to the weapons. All of the swordsmen recognize the Nidai right away and Okiku (who we knew was already there) is bold enough to pick it up and say he will take it back since probably no other person would touch it. Very, VERY simple. I'm glad Oda didn't waste any panels on seeing that.

@@rosaeruber225 1) Most swordsman who know about the Nidai would not use it and would definitely talk about it. 2) Kinenmon made it known that they were in desperate need of weapons to arm the resistance which prompted Kawamatsu to leave the prison and check his stash. The prison still had all weapons that were confiscated from all the prisoners over the past 20 years. For reference we have Raizo finding Kawamatsus swords and returning them to him. 3) Using logic to connect dots isn't damage control because everything I listed is information we were spoonfed to death. Don't blame me because your mouth was closed.
