I feel like people aren't fully grasping everything we've had in the flashbacks and information relayed to us beforehand. First off, Sengoku's statement that Big Mom and Kaido got stronger is in reference to when they were onboard the Rocks Pirates vs when they became established Pirates. We know he meant it like that and not "they are stronger now than 20 years ago" because Big Mom and Kaido were already established Emperors when Roger was nearing the end of his voyage and Whitebeard was already stalemating with Roger years before he found Laugh Tale. On top of that, Sengoku's statement was specifically in reference to the fact that they eventually got stronger after Garp and Roger kicked their asses. Kaido is probably about as strong now as he was when he fought Oden, Oden is just that strong. The man took an attack from Gol. D roger and survived with minimal damage and managed to clash with a semi-serious Whitebeard previously. There are 2 things that also seal the deal for me personally: Kaido SPECIFICALLY compares Oden to Whitebeard and Roger, claiming they were extremely powerful but far too kind (indicating that Kaido was aware of two other people who could injure him). We also get the narration that Oden's strength was vastly underestimated, meaning that it's unlikely Kaido was weaker than he is now and Oden was simply that crazy strong.

We don't know exactly when they peaked, but we can assume that at the very least it had to happen before Gold Roger was executed, cause White Beard was almost Roger's equal and unless Kol wants to claim that the yonko currently are stronger than the pirate king, then their's no way kaido was that weak 20 years ago. I just personally didnt like the pacing of this chapter at all. I was expecting this epic build up for the only attack known to have severely damaged Kaido. But it just... kind of happened i guess? Even the chapter is called Oden vs Kaido but its literally just a few panels. Im fine with the outcome but im definitely not fine with the execution.
