It’s so challenging in a world that’s easily offended. To offend is not my heart. I just want to get down to what needs to happen so we don’t waste everyone’s time, money, or energy.

You will drain your very core of being wgen you constantly try to drive full speed without losening the handbreaks. I am currently practicing to have faith in my environment and let go of all restraints (which I used to apply to myself as I was afraid of being too much for them). It feels good! Also,I have heard that 8's who realise how the other types perceive them tend to overrestrict themselves of fear of offending others. This is not what we are designed for! The best advice I can give to anyone learning the Enneagram, especially if they readily type *themselves* as 8s or bring back 8 on a test (without feedback from others who are experienced in the Enneagram)...8 is one of the most misunderstood types (probably along with 5 and to some degree 6 and 7), do not assume someone is 8 because they seem aggressive, combative, confident, angry, whatever. I can't tell you how many 6s are going to mistype themselves as 8s (the counterphobic element is what does it). 3s also tend to mistype as 8s quite often. I'm 5w6 with a lot of CP element to my 6 wing and I've even mistyped myself as 8. During those times it was the feedback of others who knew the Enneagram well that made me remember I'm just not type 8, regardless of how I can twist around the descriptions to match my experience. It's an energetic quality. Watch videos of famous 8s, like MLK, FDR, LBJ, Churchill, Castro, Hussein...even Donald Trump (female 8s of course exist as well, Michelle Obama is a good example, also Roseanne Barr). They all have instinctual grounded-ness, even when they're on the crazier and more frenzied w7 side. 8 is a gut type. They are expansive, earthy, pragmatic. CP6 actually comes across as more openly aggressive but they don't have the grounded vibe. If the triads were elements, gut triad would be earth...think heavy, firm, immovable. 8s of all varieties have solidity about them. Often they're quieter and more low-key than descriptions make them out to be, especially if they're social variant last and/or have w9. 8s have a relatively slow cadence. If someone is very fast-talking and seems frenetic in their energy, it's more likely to be another type, such as 6.
@blindeyeshater3 жыл бұрын
Very well said!
@jamesgordon54773 жыл бұрын
@@jinwoo78 I agree. The 8 has a vibe and energetic quality that is expansive and earthy that is there to some degree all the time, and it’s like almost all the time, they don’t even need to try to impact others, they do it unconsciously. 6s you can see the perspiration and feel their aggression more, it’s more conscious. They’re putting in the effort and they expect others to see it and get reciprocation.
@harte708Ай бұрын
This is so true! My husband is an 8, but I has been often mistyped as a 5, because he relates to some of the central ideas of 5. But it’s his energy, presence, and magnetism that makes me sure he’s an 8. His energy is like a flat fist….very powerful, very magnetic/charismatic, so confident. But it’s a really easy confidence, not at all concerned with appearances or what others think. The energy!!! I’m a 9 and have such quiet energy lol
@jamesgordon5477Ай бұрын
@@harte708 Is he a social 8? I finally learned I'm an 8 as well, but a Social 8. They're a countertype intellectual 8, and more likely to mistype as another type. Karl Marx is an example.

Usually, I hear the enneagram types describe their type unwittingly. A dear Type 1 friend loves to say "perfect" in her sentences. "I'm looking for the perfect chair" etc. It has to be right. You have described me to a t here. Only thing is, I HATE having to take care of the 'stupid people'. Still, when I see someone being mistreated I have this instinctual need to protect them. I hate it but I can't stop doing it.

I love your videos, Tom- thank you! Yet, I fundamentally disagree with the idea that 8's go by the notion that people are stupid. Strong or weak/ irrelevant or to be reckoned with/competent or incompetent/ friend or foe- yes. But stupid ? No. And on a structural level, it must be clear that this is not a category a gut-type can relate to: because "stupid" does not trigger any immediate action. Stupid-incompetent although in a higher rank will immediately result in attack or at least challenge. Whereas Stupid-incompetent in a lower rank will result in offers of support and help. Stupid alone doesn't bother an 8. P.S: I loughed out LOUD- L O U D!- when you said : "the regulations have been written 20years ago.....". I am a lawyer and specialise in challenging "old" high and supreme court decisions ". Goodness gracious - this is fun.
@jasmintorino61293 жыл бұрын
Same here..I don't perceive people as inherently stupid (unless blatantly obvious). Rather, I view some people as illogical or without common sense. And that's when the anger or frustration builds.

2/13/22 I’m a 5-7-8 All wings are 6’s. I’m sending this to a person whom I thought was a true friend only to find out he betrayed me making fun of me behind my back. I’m in 100% agreement in your description. My son once described me, “your first offense is your last with my mum, better make sure it’s right.” Well at 76 I’ve mellowed albeit not much. Pride goeth before the fall, opps I’m proud to be a 5/7/8. Thank you, subscribed to your channel. For Richard Rohr also has excellent information on the Enneagram.

8w7 and I think as opposed to thinking most people are stupid I think a lot of people are aimless or lack regular thoughtfulness throughout the day, only with regards to their specific goals and passions, which can come off as "stupid" but is pretty different

@billbutton76694 жыл бұрын
Your descriptions of all the types thus far have been so much more easy to envision then many of the Enneagram books. No offence to the books, I just appreciate when you take, for example the line on 8s wanting to use their authority, to mean that they just want to get things done. It's a nuance that the author of the book should have taken into account. We're talking about flat out power tripping vs "oye mate, you mind doing this, we need it done for the project?". Also, I'm sorry if I misinterpreted what you were saying. I'm not an 8 (maybe an 8 wing) so I might have projected my own type into your description.

in the 16:00 you're apologizing for saying that 8's think people are stupid. Don't. Seriously. I'm one of the healthiest 8's I personally know and let me tell you something, I truly do think people are stupid. For real. Don't apologize. It's true. I hate people that say stuff lik "I'm an ESFJ 2W3 scorpio and bla bla and I can attest to bla bla" but for real, I'm an 8 and sometimes I do get myself saying that people are stupid. Even though I don't agree with me (which is funny if you think about it) I truly do sometimes literally think precisely that

PeteStranger, as a “healthy 8”, stop calling all 8’s view of people as an insulting, condescending descriptor. I’m also a strong 8 and default that people are not stupid - just wrong. Maybe they’re wrong by mistake or misinformed, but they’re just wrong. Only call them stupid when you’re out for vengeance.
@consciouscrypto30904 жыл бұрын
Well as a 1, let me just concur that people are in fact stupid. Stands to reason. I mean average IQ means that people falling below it brings the average down, yet there are some extreme outliers at the top. So if you work it out, of course you have a lot of people pulling the average down and just a few pulling it up. Duh.
@jinwoo784 жыл бұрын
I personally do not go around thinking people are stupid, but I also always do to the best of my ability to keep away from people in general because it's the human factor that almost always gets in the way of getting things done. I'm on average "health" for an 8, but I don't go out of my way to bulldoze people, generally. I am aware of my own power and capacity to destroy and I always take care to never assert or misuse that power. I always try to encourage and talk it out with people if we have problems with each other.

Hey, in your video tags you don't have anything Type 8 related. I'd add tags like "type 8", "am i type 8", "type 8 description", "type eight" and so on, so KZbin knows what your video is about and can recommend it to other people.

I’m laughing so hard about the “You need to go to the manager. You need to take this sandwich back, it’s not what you wanted” bit bc that’s me. I give more of a fuck about other people being “wronged” than they do and most of the time more of a fuck than about myself being “wronged” 😅 I don’t think it’s even about them being wronged. It’s about the fact that people who won’t stand up for themselves drive me nuts. Like just tell them the damn order is wrong 😩 I also feel like I have to share my knowledge with people so they aren’t taken advantage of. I’m an attorney and the amount of free legal advice I give out- unsolicited- because I can’t stand watching people get fucked over is insane
