Drew, I’m near tears with this video. It often hurts to hear people talk about the “lazy withdrawn” 9s; a broad brushstroke which painfully strikes my sense of not feeling seen. I feel so seen, finally, with your video. I’ve known for months that I was a social 9, but few teachers talk about the energy of that with knowledge and understanding. Thank you for this 💚

Watching Beatrice Paes Enneagram they described the sloth as towards themselves about what they need or should be doing, even if they're constantly busy. Like hesitating on self love or on homework or on energizing themselves or on alone recharge time, or even sleep! That's the passion, and that's masked by the subtype, but the passion itself Masks the virtue - right action. It's amazing and healing to learn that about myself.

Come to think of it, I’m always aware what’s good for the group but hardly ever aware of what is good for myself. I tend to have trouble even sometimes deciding what I actually like, not always, but I’m pretty immediate on understanding the needs of the whole.

Your enneagram videos, and in particular these ones on the subtypes, are just fantastic. So many descriptions that are right on target for me as a social 9. And I really like that you emphasise to take part of the other subtype videos for 9s.

That word “yet” hits me man, and I’ll receive and appreciate it. I feel it’ll find the right people who need and appreciate it. I’m glad you did. Part of doing these was to put out content in a voice I personally would have wanted when I got into the enneagram. So, thanks Greg! Listening to this- the hardest part is the suggestion to err on the side of arrogance. It’s hard for me to be convinced I’m not arrogant if I open up more, share myself more- my wants, my agenda. Especially because when I try I usually get push back as if I’m being arrogant- at least I feel that way. I feel like I would be too arrogant if I let myself go more, for lack of a better way to express that. Thanks for the video.
@drewnewkirk

Sorry for getting back to you so late on this, but maybe that’s a good thing in this case. Have you been erring on the side of arrogance? I hope you’ve at least tried it. We are so prone to exaggerating how we show up. Thinking that we are way more extreme than we are. I do this all the time as well. We doubt, we question, we wonder if we’re too much. It’s so common for all of us, but especially certain numbers. Hope that you challenged yourself to just be out there a bit more in the last two months. Sorry again for the delay, Drew

Think of it the opposite way too - if you think you’re the ONLY one in the universe that can’t share their wants and needs; really the only one?? That’s pretty arrogant. (Lol. Hopefully you take that with laughter fellow 9 :p). Thought it was a great gem when I first heard it.

About when "loving when things are about you". I was talking with my sister (who is a social 2w1) about the greatest moments of our lives and I said that besides the fact that I am an introvert I loved my 18th birthday party soo much. It was not only mine because we organised it with 2 other friends who had their birthdays the same week and we had many many common friends so we did a huge party that was like a small wedding. Anyways my sister said "You loved it because it was about you 😊". I wasn't sure if I should feel offended but she said it so obviously and nicely that I gave it a little of thought and agreed. It really changed the way I view myself. I actually like to be seen by the people that I try so hard to blend with. And the fact that she said it so naturally like it wasn't a bad thing.

Oh boy, this was almost frightening to watch. I related to a lot of your descriptions and I really want to compliment you for being so nuanced and thorough. I've watched a lot of videos about the Enneagram but many seem so superficial - not necessarily "fake" or without insight but too much at the surface for me to really know whether or not I fit the descriptions. This spoke very much to me, especially the anchor part. I've often wondered about my position within a group and thought that my perfect spot would be withdrawn but in a way that enabled me to know what's going on. Not a leader but one who may be called upon when my special skill is needed without getting too involved and thus adding more confusion to the plentitude of confusions that always exist in a group of just a few people. Yes, I need to run that risk in order to fit in well, but it really makes me uncomfortable and feel that I dominate or serve my own interests rather than those of the group as a whole. I do see the patadox of how I do exactly what I don't want to do with that attitude - but what to do? Scary stuff, but thank you!

Hi Drew, could you please do a video about enneagram 9w8 social subtype. I deal a lot with this type in business: they seem to be great networkers and enterpreneurs with interest in the NGO/NPO sector. my parents are 9w8s, my boss and some of his friends are. There are also some 9w8 artists i admire. Sometimes I‘m a tiny little bit intimidated by them. I want to understand them since I have to work with them and are also quite good at it but I like to learn new things. Greetings from a 4w5 sexual/self-preservation (although i‘m not so sure about the subtypes). And then please compare them with 8w9 and please talk about the differences of male and female 9w8 social subtypes if possible. thank you, your videos are truly amazing.

@@drewnewkirk 😂😂 man, I’ve been through it all. I’ve thought I was nearly every type. I just have this urge to ask someone close to me to take the test and read on my behalf. It’s just strange for an INFP like myself to struggle. I have this habit of connecting behaviors with certain subtypes I test as. If I test as a Sexual dom, then I shift my perspective of past tendencies to match the subtype. Interestingly enough, if I test as a SP dom, then I could shift the perspective of that same tendency to fit SP dom. Didn’t mean to bombard with text but yeah lol

I am beginning to see the social 9 in me. But often I hear that social nines are leaders and can be workaholics. I am a “normal” worker. But I do work hard to please the people I am working with and do a lot for the team - so much that I burnout sometimes. Which I am at the moment😔 I want to belong… Is most social 9 leaders? Sorry, I am a bit concrete in my way of thinking😅
@drewnewkirk
@drewnewkirk Жыл бұрын
So so sorry for the delay, has been a crazy past few months. And on that note, I think sometimes we don’t realize what kind of workaholics we are. We probably work harder and more than we think we do, especially as we are often prone to doubt in general. And prone to devaluing how hard we put ourselves into things. Your burn out might be a representation of that. And I also want to challenge you to not under devalue your leader ship. Leader ship looks different for people. Yours might not be upfront or loud, maybe leading from the back or behind. But you might have a type of leader ship that shows up that you aren’t registering. Maybe find all the ways that you are a leader and not the ways you aren’t, just to play with it as an experiment. as for being concrete, no worries there, but you can work on challenging that as well. Love that you are engaging in this Contant and thanks for reaching out, sorry again for the delay. Drew

Thank you so much for your answer🙏🙏 I have actually begun to think that I might be a social 7. First I thought I was a 2, then 9, then 6, then 9 again, then a social 6. Now I am at social 7😂 I had not heard about the countertype of the 7 before… And I did not think that I was an assertive type. But the So 7 hit sometime in me. I have been sick with stress for 2 months now and my heart has been beating with fear most of the time. I feel the meaning when I sit still and when I dive deep into materials that I love. I know that I do have a lot of morals in me, and I am trying to find out if it is my own or just heavy generation morals… I think 9, 2 and maybe 4 is high up also. Thanks for your words around leadership. I will try to think of it in a broader sense. Thank you so much for your deep explanations and answers☺️
