Anoche, 7 de mayo de 2019, tuve la suerte de asistir al concierto de Ennio Morricone en Madrid, dirigiendo a más de 200 personas entre músicos y coro, con sus 90 años. Todo el concierto fue sublime, pero cuando empezaron a sonar las primeras notas con el piano de Cinema Paradiso os aseguro que a más de la mitad del wizink center, una 10.000 personas, se le saltaron las lagrimas. No se puede describir con palabras la emoción que me produce escuchar este maravilloso tema del genio Ennio Morricone.

This piece was my introduction to Ennio Morricone; my string orchestra played an arrangement of it, and it struck me as so beautiful even from the first time and has stuck with me for years. I came to know his work in other ways, and usually there's something in his style that I recognize as his even if I'm hearing a piece for the first time. I miss him so much and the story of this film was the story of his life back in the time when he was a projector of films and I used to watch the films at his work from the little window... Il maestro Ennio Morricone attraverso la sua genialità di comporre capolavori come "Nuovo Cinema Paradiso" ed altri è riuscito a scavare nel più profondo delle nostre emozioni, con quella melodia sublime, piena di amore, è riuscito a lasciare un segno indelebile nella cultura e arte del patrimonio musicale. Considerarlo uno dei più grandi geni della musica mondiale di tutti i tempi è il minimo indispensabile riconoscimento che dobbiamo avere tutti nei suoi confronti. Personalmente parlando, mi sento fiero ed orgoglioso di essere italiano dal momento in cui esistono personalità come il maestro Morricone che hanno rappresentato nel mondo la bellezza, l'arte, la cultura e l'amore della nostra Italia.
