Cult western classic, with Lee Van Cleef and Tomas Milian. Lee captures the accused tomas, only to learn that things may not be like they seem.
Ennio's triumphant score is one of his best. With a galloping brovado that is contagious, it has cult status of its own. This song is one of the coolest ever, with stinging guitars, pounding bass drums, brass bombast, and the feiry vocals of the Catori Moderni pushing it into legend.

My grandfather was a sheriff in a small town of the U.S.A., at the turn of the 19th century. He was born in Italy, grew up in a ranch, became a sharp shooter & eventually became a law man. Even in those days there was plenty of violence. At times he had no choice but to square off & kill an outlaw or outlaws. My dad's family back home in Italy have a diary & photos of him in his sheriff days. Too bad he gave his badge to a friend. Those were hard times indeed.

Wow, thanks for posting. This is one of Morricone's most overlooked pieces. Also the way Sergio Solima cuts the film to emphasize Cuchillo's desperate flight from the landowner's men. It's obvious Morricone wasn't composing to a finished edit and the film was cut around his score.

I was fortunate enough to have met him while growing up as a youngster. He had a very interesting & fascinating life & told me many life true stories. He was 6 foot 5 inches tall, a gentle giant who wouldn't hurt a fly. John Wayne was his favorite idol. I miss him dearly. God bless you Nonno Angelo.

Sergio Leone once noted that Van Cleef resembled physically to Van Gogh. Nobody took the risk, apparently But he was an excellent actor - before Leone, his Chinese general for example in 'China Gate' (1957) was curiously convincing - but it is really Cinecittà, not Hollywood, that made him. Today it would me unimaginable: Italia movie exportation has been litterally killed by American distributors.
