Excellent commentary! Unfortunately: It was timely! Have a very nice SN95 1995 SVT COBRA that was getting in need of an upgrade in suspension. The unfortunate part.was a recent Wipeout of the right hand side... taking out a brand new Continental all season staggered beautifully built DWS Plus w/ new mags. This the first all season ever run on the car. Normally have (3) full sets of wheels & tires mounted for each of my cars: A summer ultimate driving set. A summer drag radial set, , & now an all season that I had really learned to love. YES... GETS EXSPENSIVE When Dealing With Multiple Vehicles! So then forced into the Wipeout of just an expensive 6 month old purchase which will need to be replaced soon I forced myself into... still playing catchup monetarily... gonna upgrade my suspension. (Already had a good amount of bolt on added) now... looking into a Level 3 QA1 Complete Suspension Kit & /then my possible big brake kit. Guess my "Puppy" will have to wait??? Thanx for the (2) brake videos! J

Ha! I put that same setup on my rear axle. SVTP is still cool. I ran the taurus 43 mm caliper for 2 or 3 track days. Brake fluid was leaking from a caliper past the piston seal. I made a similar front kit using Brembo GT1 / Ford FR500 calipers the GT500/S197 rotor. You might keep an eye out for 2 piece kits from Wilwood, FTBR, Girodisc, or DBA, etc. The GT500 rotors have a lot mass that's not part of the friction surface.

Good to have confirmation about the Taurus caliper, I heard there were issues but never first hand. Yea some 2 piece rotors in the future would be helpful.

Let me know how they do on the track! Last I heard from Girodisc, they were supposed to have the full floating 13-14 GT500 rear rotors this past fall; not sure what happened.

Assuming the brackets don't end up being an insane price, I am very interested in this setup! I am very curious about your pedal feel, did it feel like the brakes went down further than needed? Pushing a lot of extra fluid with those massive 4 pistons, and hydroboost setups don't really have master cylinder choices. Let me know, a lot of guys around me write this ATS swap off as a bad choice, but they enjoy throwing money at $3k brake kits they don't use at the track. If this is a suitable alternative to the crappy taurus calipers, I'm in!
@RinerAutomotive
@RinerAutomotive 6 ай бұрын
The brackets are being produced by S&S Engineering and are cheaper than what I paid. As for pedal feel, I'll know soon and I'll have a video for that and master cylinder. There are several OEM master cylinders. Doing the math ATS/XTS calipers aren't that large volume wise. Stock GT/V6 caliper volume is actually enormous but only single piston. But I'm really interested to see how this feels as well. First event coming up next month!
@foreverdrivin6725
@foreverdrivin6725 6 ай бұрын
@RinerAutomotive I haven't seen many options for master cylinders for the hydroboost besides the stock 96-98 and a few for 99-04, but dealing with that swap can be a headache cause of the orientation and (for some reason) different fittings. Let me know how it goes! If it turns out nice I won't even worry about it lol. I found a few groups with guys who run them and they love them, but no track experience. Can't wait to hear!

RE parking brake cable. Your rerouting is no fuss but I also wonder if there is enough adjustment at the T bracket where the wheel cables join the handle cable. Also in your research did you find anything about s197 brakes onto an Fox/sn95 axle?
@RinerAutomotive
@RinerAutomotive 8 ай бұрын
I tried seeing if there was any adjustment/slack there or if there were any other cables from other cars that were slightly longer. I combed through rockauto looking, but nothing obvious popped up. This minor reroute was perfect though. I haven't seen anything about S197 brakes on a fox/sn95 axle. Since it's a bolt on bracket in the rear I think it could be easily done just most people are looking at the fronts and ignoring the rear.
@justinlpaul
@justinlpaul 8 ай бұрын
I had briefly looked into S197 rear brakes. They use a different parking brake cable so it would not be a simple bolt on install. Rear brakes overheating on these cars isn’t really a thing (especially with large rotors) so I don’t see much point in changing calipers.

I have a question on clearing the front/rear rotors. What offset rims should i be looking at?
@RinerAutomotive
@RinerAutomotive 3 ай бұрын
That's hard to answer because offset doesn't define caliper clearance. It's something called X-factor which isn't widely advertised. I'd assume most 18" and larger wheels would have the brake clearance. Unfortunately it could be a trial and error process.

Thanks for the video. I currently have a 89 fox with a gen 3 coyote pushing almost 500hp. The car weighs in at just under 3100lbs. I am running the cobra brake setup 13/11.62 with the cobra booster. It was the original m2300k kit from the 90s and the IRS from the 04 cobra. Still running strong. However, I feel braking could be better. I am not sure those 14” gt500 brakes will work on the Fox. I feel may be too much brake for my car. I definitely believe the Cadillac caliper options are better but the brake bias is what I am hung up on. If I decide to swap for the ATS and keep 13” out front. What do you recommend for rotor/ piston on the rear?
@RinerAutomotive
@RinerAutomotive 7 ай бұрын
This link may help you lawpaul.github.io/SN95-Brake-Bias/ It looks like this setup will still work for ATS fronts. The XTS isn't really that much larger than the ATS only in rotor size. The pistons and brake pads are the same. Before spending a lot of money on the brakes, what brake pads are you running? I loved my Cobra brakes I had beforehand. I ran with Carbotech AX6 brake pads for autocross. Do you have a brake proportioning valve?
@mrprfct7069
@mrprfct7069 7 ай бұрын
@@RinerAutomotiveI am using the stock cobra brake pads. OEM stuff and I have a brake prop valve. I find my front brakes lock up much earlier than the back ones. Almost zero brake dust on the back. Also the reasons why I don’t want the larger front rotors is the added weight from the rotor and caliper and the lack of wheel choices that come with having larger rotors on the fox. I would love the 14s but the wheel choices might make it cost prohibiting

I'm doing the same set up with XTS 14: front and 43mm rear. I'm curious if you looked at LMR and the parts they sell for GT500 rear set up. they have a kit 2005-2014 with rotors and bracket, or just bracket alone to use the 13.8" rotors. Thoughts if that would work on Fox that has the M2300K cobra kit with 38mm? i bought the 43mm calipers, just curious if you think that bracket LMR sells will work
@RinerAutomotive

No those brackets won't work. Same principle though. Get the ones from S&S Engineering as they have the correct spacing. Also read up on the Taurus 43mm calipers. There have been some failures that make them undesirable.

What's the thickness of the 13.8" rotor? How is pad fitment? I'm going to start a thread on the FB group about maybe using an S550 13" rear rotor/ 38mm caliper with the ATS fronts. FFr/Rr balance wise.
@RinerAutomotive
@RinerAutomotive 8 ай бұрын
Pad fitment is perfect. Rotor thickness is 0.75", which is thicker than the Cobra. You would have to design a whole new brake caliper axle plate. A bracket like this one wouldn't work as the bolts would be closer to the axle center with the smaller rotor so there would be interference.
@justinlpaul
@justinlpaul 8 ай бұрын
S550 rotors are too thick. The GT500 rear rotor is 1mm thicker than Cobra rear rotors and is the absolute thickest a rotor could be with off the shelf pads.
