This reminds me so much of something I read this morning in my Wesley-Warren-Pius Paleo-Conservative Christian Compact Study Bible with Neo-Liberal study notes (in the fake emu leatherette). Very good thoughts.

@joest.eggbenedictus1896 it's simultaneously magnificent and abominable.

I heard it's pretty good, but you can't beat the suppleness of real emu leather.

I don't like using the various terms like "liberal" and "conservative" when used to dismiss various Bible translations and notes, but I do think it's important to understand the tradition/perspective of the translators and/or scholars behind it because it does impact things. But as you know I like a variety, I actually have recently been using the ESV some more to give it a fair shake. Good thoughts and hope you have a happy New Year!

I'm a UCC Christian and probably wayyyyyy farther left on both the theological and political spectrum than the average Christian. But you know which Bible I use most frequently? The NASB 95, because I'm poor and got it for cheap, and the thinline size fits conveniently in my Church bag. Is it my favorite translation? No - I have everything from the NRSV to the KJV to the REB to the Christian Community Bible. But the most portable and readable (font-wise) translation I have is the NASB, so until I can get a NABRE or NRSVue thinline in a good typeface and size, my NASB will be here to stay. Translations matter a lot less than people think they do.

@@Christiamorous Well the NASB is a great choice. I doubt you're going to find a NRSVue as portable.

I share your 2025 Bible thoughts and directives, Joe. However, may I be bold enough to remind you of the time-tested motto of every good cook and chef? It is: "clean as you go". Happy New Year!
