This definitely has one of the most interesting stories of composition out of ANY piece of music ever created. I still have no idea how Tartini managed to remember whole 16 minutes of a masterpiece from, even in his words ''pathetic imitation'' of what he heard in his dream, and then proceed to write it all out before forgetting altogether! I really relate to his frustrations, as I also hate it when I have a really awesome dream, only to immediately forget most, if not *all* of it the moment I wake up. And imagine you concieve the greatest masterpiece ever to be composed in the history of humankind in your dreams, and you don't do it the slightest justice while writing it down! The agony of a creator must have been insurmountable. With that being said, Tartini still did a spectacular job.

Sometimes I dreamed about already dead artist's new releases, my brain just reconstructs the style and makes something new with it (voice and lyrics perfectly realistic to their standard). They are not really "masterpieces" but the songs have the overall experience and feeling I get when listening to said artist's songs, just a good experience that I'm unable to write down even if I'm a musician
@gloomygguk528Ай бұрын
this ! i can so relate to this feeling. i love how the people are constantly trying to argue in the comments about whether tartini really was telling the truth or not. but to me, it adds even more a mystery and eloquence to such a long piece. it is however very much in everyone's acceptance that it is nonetheless renowned music, soul touching. when i first heard this song, i had very detailed visual imageries of the parts of the song, as if the devil was saying, 'now lemme tell you a story'. to me, almost in recollection of how he was banished from heaven. the slow wonderful melancholy rhythm in the parts as if recollecting his moments spent in heaven as an angel with bittersweet feelings, then slowly the revolt, and the subsequent parts as the rhythm become more harsher and taut with his descent to the underworld, the feeling of sorrow, and anger, you can practically feel it raw. nonetheless, this was was how i first saw it as. giuseppe was wonderful in capturing such an experience, even if incomparable to the one who had performed to him.

I am well aware that this is a joke, but if you think about it, why is it so hard for the generations that grew up with technology to memorize certain subjects, while past generations could do it with much ease. To those who still can't comprehend on what I am stating here, what is the main difference between the era of today compared to the past era's. Technology, modern entertainment, the ability to reach to someone thousands if not millions of miles away, in just a click of a button. Tartini sold his soul to the devil in a dream of his. He exchanged his soul for the devil to be his servant and teacher. At the end of the music lesson Tartini handed the violin to the devil to see if he could play. The devil started playing with virtuosity; delivering an intense and magnificent performance. Tartini described it like this: "I gave him my violin to see if he could play. How great was my astonishment on hearing a sonata so wonderful and so beautiful, played with such great art and intelligence, as I had never even conceived in my boldest flights of fantasy. I felt enraptured, transported, enchanted: my breath failed me, and I awoke." Mesmerized by the devil’s brilliant and awe-inspiring playing, Tartini immediately attempted to recreate what he had heard. However, despite having said that the sonata was his favorite, Tartini later wrote that it was "so inferior to what I had heard, that if I could have subsisted on other means, I would have broken my violin and abandoned music forever." I can barely imagine how good the actual sonata must have been that he heard the devil play in his dream.

This artpiece would certainly represent what the devil knows would be man's greatest weakness. Their self doubts. The dancing of the chords makes it sound as if it is chasing around something, playing with you, and exploiting what you bury in the subconcious. The anxiety inducing buildup towards a somber upending brings out the full ugliness of the mind, in a small yet potent form. When you think it could be over it happens again, with your doubts growing bigger. And around the third time the trilling of the violins and other instruments make you feel a moment of true despair in a cathartic fashion. I may not know much about music, but it took a real orchestral genious to remember what played in his very nightmares that haunted him until his demise.

GIUSEPPE TARTINI

kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGqqi6l5rpiorNE Hi! I played Francisco Tárrega masterpiece "Lágrima" with guitar. If you want to listen, you can reach it via the link..🎶🎶🌼🌼⚘⚘
I newly learned about the story of this song. The surprising thing is, when I was a teenager, I also heard a beautiful guitar composition in my dream. My dream wasn't as complicated as Tartini's, there was a fall leaves moving on a laying down lady, as the lady closed her eyes, my sight angle was getting closer to her and a beautiful, extremely beautiful guitar composition was playing with an angelic reverb, the lady was either dead or sleeping but in front of everything, there was yellow leaves was moving in deadly peace. I also couldn't remember exactly how it was when I woke up and made a bad imitation of it like Tartini. Another thing I don't understand of this song is, it's 16 min long but for example in the dream I saw, the melodies were 16 bar long at most. It's impossible to hear very long composition in a dream I guess. So probably this 16 mins is also is like telling a frustration how he can't exactly remember that!

The funny part is, devil's plan worked. Devil played a beautiful sonata for him, because devil knew when Tartini wakes up he will try to play it. Eventually he tried over and over again and he went crazy because he can't play the music he heard. That was the Devil's plan, make him doubt himself. Everyday Tartini lived was a hell for him, because he never be able to play the music, even he did a masterpiece

Many people forget the fact that satan/lucifer was an archangel himself. Remove his malice/greed, he was still was the fucking angel of light. Imagine what kind of talent and mastery he would've had of everything, not just music. We all fail to comprehend the fact he had so much confidence in himself (probably because he was so goated) that even with having everything, he went on to rebel against the GOD himself. Doesn't matter how evil he is, the dude is fucking goated to have stood for what he thought was right.
@NickAndriadze2 ай бұрын
The English a bit broken, yes, but this is a phenomenal point. You're absolutely correct, the Devil, even if Tartini's dream version of the devil, absolutely drove the composer to hell by creating something so majestic and beautiful, that even a master musician like him would NEVER be able to do it justice.

Tartini allegedly told to the French astronomer Jérôme Lalande that he had dreamed that the devil had appeared to him and had asked to be Tartini's servant and teacher. At the end of the music lesson, Tartini handed the devil his violin to test his skill, which the devil began to play with virtuosity, delivering an intense and magnificent performance. So singularly beautiful and executed with such superior taste and precision was the Devil's performance, that the composer felt his breath taken away. Told by Tartini himself in Lalande's Voyage d'un François en Italie: One night, in the year 1713 I dreamed I had made a pact with the devil for my soul. Everything went as I wished: my new servant anticipated my every desire. Among other things, I gave him my violin to see if he could play. How great was my astonishment on hearing a sonata so wonderful and so beautiful, played with such great art and intelligence, as I had never even conceived in my boldest flights of fantasy. I felt enraptured, transported, enchanted: my breath failed me, and I awoke. I immediately grasped my violin in order to retain, in part at least, the impression of my dream. In vain! The music which I at this time composed is indeed the best that I ever wrote, and I still call it the "Devil's Trill", but the difference between it and that which so moved me is so great that I would have destroyed my instrument and have said farewell to music forever if it had been possible for me to live without the enjoyment it affords me.

Funfact: In the bible lucifer or satan was the chief and the greatest when it comes to music in heaven. It is said that when he plays his fellow angels is mesmerized.

@@necromantic420 Both Isaiah 14:11 and Ezekiel 28:13 are usually interpreted as speaking about the fall of Lucifer and they both mention musical instruments.

@@luciandirnu7251 Ezekiel might be talking about him but it says nothing about music. So I guess the only source for this idea that Satan is a musician is Isaiah which might not even be talking about Satan.

Reminds me of the music of the Ainur as described in JRR Tolkien's The Silmarillion, where Melkor (an analogue for Lucifer) disrupts the music of the Ainur and creates his own music, which causes the other Ainur to join in, which manifests evil and chaos into the world.

Es una sonata muy interesante por sus diferentes estados emocionales a los que va induciendo. La leyenda que la rodea enriquece mucho está obra musical.

listening to this makes me truly envious of Tartini for having heard the original. If _this_ is what he considers 'so inferior to what I had heard, that if I could have subsisted on other means, I would have broken my violin and abandoned music forever' whatever the Devil played must have been soul-destroyingly beautiful.
