That a song as classic as this can compare to contemporary music is a testament to the true musicianship of ensalved. What a band! so beyond their time, it is a wonder to hear this now :)

I am so stoked for this release, preordered (even with exorbitant fees to ship to Taiwan) and anxious beyond belief. This is an outstanding recording and performance. Peace and prosperity to all those involved in the project and all they hold dear.

@TheGreatGodPan3 жыл бұрын
This highlights well how well this album aged in relation to their newer stuff (I prefer 90s enslaved personally), I always felt many overlooked just how progressive and experimental Frost was, they were always ahead of their time without being pretentious or "avant-garde" in any way, really nice modern take on it that's still true to their BM roots.
@michaelhudson29123 жыл бұрын
old Darkthrone and Burzum were super innovative too, just not in a 'prog' way. Stuff like Hvis lyset tar oss and Transilvanian Hunger being influenced by Kraftwerk and minimalist techno music was never done before in metal.
@TheGreatGodPan3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelhudson2912 I think Varg's very pretentious in going on about his "underground techno" influences. Also pretty sure he never even got into the obvious pioneers of electronica like Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze (despite supposedly being a Germanophile) saying he liked Jean Michel Jarre. I agree though the structure of Hvis Lyset Tar Oss was ahead of its time and worked really well. As for Filosofem, I didn't enjoy the second half so much, the first three tracks are great but the rest is an absolute bore. Also, Varg is such an insufferable ass it overshadows the music so much for me these days. As for darkthrone, I would hardly call it prog, though Fenriz has very eclectic tastes. Master's Hammer were arguably progressive in a way as they were always pretty strange and experimental. Varg is arrogant enough to claim that Burzum, Darkthrone and Immortal pioneered everything and that anyone who came after just ripped them off. It's not true, there is some similarity with enslaved in terms of the cyclical riffs on the first album but even there you could hear the progressive influences. In Emperor as well, of course. What I can't stand is most pompous "avant-garde" black metal (other than Sigh).
@michaelhudson29123 жыл бұрын
Under a Funeral Moon is a very bizarre, psychotic album. Of course, most reviews just say it sounds like old Bathory, completely missing the innovation.
@TheGreatGodPan3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelhudson2912 it's not that much like bathory, it was a milestone but I'd hardly call it progressive and I doubt they would either. It makes you realise how they were always unashamedly old school and never said otherwise, you get Motorhead moments on it and it was that old school 80s nostalgia mixed in with their raw death metal roots I guess, plus the influence of the first wave pioneers. I never got the impression they were massive Venom fans but Fenriz seems honest enough to accept their influence on the early development (I am not a fan either, they had a few good songs but they're mostly crap)
@michaelhudson29123 жыл бұрын
@@TheGreatGodPan see, you're missing how bizarre that album is. It's influenced by old Bathory but it does strange things with the influence. It's very much not retro.
